New Orleans over spring break?

Anonymous
Has anyone done this? Kids spring break is April 6-13. I think this is a good time of year to go.

Any recommendations on places to stay and things to do? Looking at Residence Inn on Charles st because having a kitchenette is nice, but open to other suggestions.

How old are your kids?

WWII museum, Mardi Gras World, French Quarter/Cafe Du Monde/Jackson Square during the day, Audubon Park

That’s about it. It’s a long weekend’s worth of activities.

Kids are 8 and 11.

Only if you can't drive. Go outside NO to a gator farm, plantation, etc. Go to Lafayette for Cajun activities.

You could go to Gulfport or Gulf Shores for a beach for a couple days.

Those beaches are bad. Lots of Mississippi River water.

FQF is fun but very crowded. I agree it’s a good time of year to go. It’ll probably be warm enough to swim to try to find a place with a pool.

I love wandering the French Quarter and Marigny, but Uptown is also lovely and would be a nice break from the FQF crowds. Also take the streetcar to City Park to see bayous, spanish moss, and a very good art museum.

If you have a car, you could drive a couple hours west to cajun country, or a couple hours east to Mississippi beaches. If you go to a plantation, make sure it’s the Whitney. https://whitneyplantation.org/

The MS beaches aren’t exactly nice but there are some interesting little towns (Bay St Louis for example). I’ve been meaning to check out this Gehry-designed museum dedicated to George Ohr in Biloxi: https://georgeohr.org/

You can do a lot over a spring break!

DP here. New Orleans hosted the Sugar Bowl two days later and is hosting the Super Bowl 2/9. Neither were cancelled.

Agree. I think OP is trolling.

We went for a week around that age. Add a graveyard tour, swamp tour. There’s a cute small history museum and a Mardi Gras museum. The zoo is nice. Maybe go on a riverboat ride. WW2 museum will be a full day.

Go with an Airbnb, there are a lot of them.
