$250 to start vacation early?

Convince me, or dissuade me.

Friday, 11pm arrival vs Saturday, 4pm arrival

We will be working Friday, but for $250 more—including hotel costs—we can take the Friday flight and then have the whole day of Saturday to explore and have fun. (These are the only two times that don’t involve paying a ridiculous amount more or having unrealistic layovers.)

Pros/cons?

How long is the trip? I get the appeal of starting the vacation earlier and having all of Saturday to enjoy, especially if it’s a shorter trip, but in general I’m a big fan of leaving Saturday morning if working Friday. It gets kind of chaotic and stressful on Friday night, and you’re paying more for the privilege.

That said, I just got back from a 4-day trip where I arrived at 4 PM on Saturday, and by the time I arrived, freshened up, and rested a bit it was basically dinner time. So if there’s a lot you want to do, then it’s probably worth getting all of Saturday.

Friday night. Why waste an entire vacation day?

How long is the flight? How long is the trip from the airport to your hotel/destination? Are you renting a car?

What age of people are you flying with?
Are you checking luggage?
Is the 11PM the time for flight lands or your estimate of when you arrive at the destination?

Generally I would say do it...unless it in 11 pm landing time and you still need to leave the airport, rent a car and get to a hotel.

Friday night. Getting an entire Saturday, or even if you sleep in and take your time, lunch onward, is in my opinion worth it versus getting to your destination and basically just turning around for dinner.

If the trip is a week long, I’d just go Saturday. Leaving after a full day of work and arriving late needing to get settled at the hotel at midnight would not be fun for me.

Yes, pay.

Flight is three hours. Trip to hotel is around 15 minutes. No car, we will be Ubering everywhere.

DH and our 14yo. No luggage. 11pm is the estimated arrival time of the flight.

I won’t count Friday, but the trip is S-F.

Same. I usually opt for Saturday or even Sunday (cheaper tickets) travel. In either case, both options are fine.

Yes, in this case, it makes sense to travel Friday.
