Starting Wegovy--Any Tips for Injection Day

Anonymous
I'm starting Wegovy tomorrow (pens, not compound). any tips for the first injection? I keep reading to make sure I'm well hydrated and to up the protein as much as I can. Thinking of doing this in the mid-AM after I eat something high protein for bfast and get some water in.

It was honestly no big deal. First day had slight nausea but never had it again. I’ve never done anything special pre- injection. Doesn’t hurt at all.

Nothing special is required. It doesn't matter what time of day or if you have eaten.

I take it in the morning, then I wait a half hour and eat yogurt for breakfast.

But I think the key is deciding on day of the week. The negative side effects are the highest on the day after injection, and the positive effects sometimes wear off by day 6. So I take my shot on Wednesday, so I’m not having any negative effects on the weekend, but have the positive effects for the weekend when I have the most social pressure to eat.

OP here-thanks! I taking it tomorrow to assess any side effects over the weekend and not while I"m working. If I wanted to adjust the day could I move it up a day next week to Thursday?

Yes, you could but why?

I take it on the same day and made sure I'm not starving or have low blood sugar when I inject but it's mostly psychological.

If you tend to overeat on the weekends, do it on a Friday. You get the most benefit for 2-4 days after injecting.

I was advised to take it in the evening to sleep through any initial nausea. I take it Thursday nights so I have maximum help Friday and into the weekend.

I always take after I eat and have had plenty to drink. I wouldn’t try it on an empty stomach or if dehydrated. I haven’t had any side effects except some heartburn occasionally the first 2 months. I also switch sides for the injection every month. It’s been life changing in all the right ways for me.
Definitely recommend a high protein diet and weight training while on it. You don’t want to lose muscle or ruin your metabolism. Your appetite is low so the food you do consume needs to be nutritious since it won’t be much. I basically eat 2 meals a day and try to make sure they have protein and vegetables.

I didn't know there was any benefit to any of the above - just injected - never any issues/side effects (other than losing weight)

I was very tired during my first week on it but feel fine (on 3rd week). I’m snacking less and have lost about 1 lb each week on my low dose.

How are you able to afford this? I'm well off, and overweight, but not intending g to spend $500 a month. I have full insurance, but I don't believe I'm eligible for it under insurance. 5'11 and 220 lbs.

I take it at night because it makes me feel sick and I kind of sleep off the worst of it.

I pay out of pocket, $400 for a couple of months. My PCP writes the Rx, sends to a compounding pharmacy and they send it to one closer to my home

I take it in the morning and usually skip lunch and am ok for dinner.

I pay the same as above. Around 360 and lasts a couple months. Lost 35 lbs and feeling amazing, fitting into all my clothes from my 20s. Every overweight person should use this is they can’t lose weight! It’s the best!
