I have just started Nick Flynn's "Low". He's a NY poet. (married to the actress Lili Taylor) So gritty.

I have 10 minutes to finish my 2024 reading!

I'm reading Old God's Time by Sebastian Barry. It's beautifully written, but does have child abuse by priests at the heart of the book, so it's tough to read.

I tried reading this one, it was really captivating at the start, the writing completely drew me in, but yes, the subject then completely turned me around and I stopped reading it. Please come back and let us know what you think, when you finish (if you do)!

The Lincoln Highway. It’s long at 570 pages but it’s good. I DNF Deacon King Kong last week because it was tough to get into. Flying through this one.

The Sleepwalkers by Scarlett Thomas

It was good but I feel could have been better.

Starting The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

Ho Tactics by G.L. Lambert.

It's hilarious, and honestly, rivals the 48 Laws of Power for women with its wisdom.

Just finished Wedding People. Thanks for all the recommendations here!

I did finish it. The writing is stunning, so I'm glad I pushed through. And it's one of those books where the narrator/POV is unreliable so it leaves a lot to think about. But, man, the subject matter was tough and almost ruined the book for me. I'm glad I read it, but I can't widely recommend because of the subject matter.

Just finished The Brothers Grimm: A Biography by Ann Schmiesing (I learned a lot I didn't know about political/social events in pre-unification 1800s Germany but it's not the most riveting read) & am tearing through Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb (entertaining, light).

Horse - by Geraldine Brooks

I am reading Fleishman is in Trouble. For some reason I decided when it came out that it wasn't going to live up to the hype and maybe an interview with the author annoyed me or something.

But I picked up a copy in a book house on a whim and so far I'm really liking it. There are parts I'm not necessarily loving, but some of her observations about marriage and parenthood and really relatable.

Thank you for coming back. I think I'm going to leave it. I'm currently reading a book where some kids have found the body of a dead dog and I'm struggling with that - I suspect priest abuses would just push me off a cliff.
