| Is your college counseling office available? With recent ED notifications, deferrals, rejections, students may add more schools they had not originally intended to apply to. January 1st is a big deadline date. Curious if your school's office is open and replying to emails this week before the January 1st deadline? |
| Yes, though the CC office is not officially open, our senior’s counselor is on the job, answering emails and giving advice. |
Which school? Same day or within 24 hours of asking questions? We are unable to get in touch with our college counselor and have important questions that need to be answered before we send the application in. |
|
Most private schools do not have this over winter break.
You would be better off hiring an independent counselor for an hour or two at this point. |
Same day if sent early in the day, next day if sent late. Obv, not Christmas or first day of Hanukkah. |
I think this is time for a life lesson in planning. |
"Our" college counselor? "We send the application in?" Land it, mom. |
I don’t think it matters what school, because what other schools do isn’t relevant if you have questions now and can’t reach your child’s counselor. If this is a Jan 1 deadline you may be sol. Do the best you can. If not, agree with pp about reaching out to a private counselor to see if anyone will give you an emergency hour of time. |
Mom, you can do it! We're rooting for you! |
| Parents should expect college counseling offices to be open during break. Most counselors may work virtually but yes they are available. Jan 1 is a huge deadline. Good luck! |
It is a question that only the counselor can answer. It’s not an advice question it is a question about sending in a form on time on January 1st!!! |
If you didn’t hear from the college counselor today, you’re unlikely to hear from them New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day either. You could post your question here in case someone can help, but either way, just make your best guess and go. There’s really not anything else you can do. Except learn to do things earlier next time. |
| The supporting documents (i.e the forms sent by the school) are generally not due for a week or two after the app is due. You have time. |
It always makes me laugh when posters accuse other posters of being helicopter parents. Or, heaven forbid, saying "we" when referring to the college process even though pretty much every parent with a kid in a DC private has some involvement in their own kid's process. Glass houses, people. You're spending your free time reading and commenting on an anonymous forum about DC private schools. I bet you're super chill about everything and don't even care where your $50k/year private school kid winds up! |
| Hmmm. I think CC should also get a break. Have a plan ready to be set in motion (before break starts) but let them rest and be with their families. |
