OP are you the poster two weeks ago who didn't want DD to divulge her favorable ED decision so she could "see" what EA and RD said? You were instructed that you and you kid signed a binding contract to withdraw. I sit on a private school board. We and our college counselor take these contracts very seriously. And, yes, I know of furious colleges and univs when they find out that a student has not withdrawn applications. That's why the contract exists.

^^ fellow students and moms rat out the student acting unethically

My kid’s school had a situation that was like a blacklist but little different as it did not involve breaking ED. Our school used to get several kids in every year to the T25 SLAC that is closest proximity to this high school. But after 5 years of admitting 5-10 kids each year (almost all that applied) but no one ever ended up matriculating suddenly that college started rejecting all kids from our school to send a message that if you want to apply here you better do it in ED so we know you intend to come. Things slowing improving now, in the last 2 years they have accepted 2 kids - but they were both ED.

I wish there could be a ranked matching system like medical school. So schools knew each application means something to the kid and it would bring some sanity to the out of control application numbers which wreck havoc with yield protection.

Nope. Good for you and your board.

That’s interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Do you ever notice these made-up, fantasy, click-bait posts never reveal the particular high school that is blacklisted?

Curious, eh?

Bunch of twiddlin teenage morons and their morons who follow them.

Don’t know, but our private has a bad relationship with one Ivy. Nobody gets in there. They do well at all other 7. We were warned about it in a joking way. I have no idea if something actually happened

Not sure for my kid, but for my own top public it was Brown. No one EVER got into Brown. We'd send 4 to Harvard, 3 to Yale, etc. every year no problem, but the counselors were just like, "don't even think about Brown. You have a decent shot at Stanford or Princeton, but Brown? Forget it right now, it's not happening. Don't care about the stats or profile, no-go." I assume something happened?

I did not get into Brown

That’s Princeton at my kid’s school. WL felt like a win because we were told they reject everyone from our HS. They do well with all the other Ivies/S/M.

Same for my HS! It was such a mystery. We were told Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Stanford were all doable reaches but to steer clear of Brown. In my home state, all the Brown admits came from rural schools 1-2 hours away from me and 1-2 independent schools in a city 2 hours away. My theory is that Brown is very specific about how it diversifies its class and has a rote formula it likes to stick to.

I applied to Yale, Stanford and Brown plus some others, but only got rejected by Brown. I can’t think of a single Brown admit from my school, sports recruit or otherwise, in 25+ years.

In the meantime, I’ve relocated across the country and our zoned HS sends 1-2 sports recruits to Brown every year and 1-3 regular kids. I don’t get it!

There is no way colleges are organized enough to have a blacklist like you describe.
