Not sure for my kid, but for my own top public it was Brown. No one EVER got into Brown. We'd send 4 to Harvard, 3 to Yale, etc. every year no problem, but the counselors were just like, "don't even think about Brown. You have a decent shot at Stanford or Princeton, but Brown? Forget it right now, it's not happening. Don't care about the stats or profile, no-go." I assume something happened? I did not get into Brown :D
Same for my HS! It was such a mystery. We were told Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Stanford were all doable reaches but to steer clear of Brown. In my home state, all the Brown admits came from rural schools 1-2 hours away from me and 1-2 independent schools in a city 2 hours away. My theory is that Brown is very specific about how it diversifies its class and has a rote formula it likes to stick to. I applied to Yale, Stanford and Brown plus some others, but only got rejected by Brown. I can’t think of a single Brown admit from my school, sports recruit or otherwise, in 25+ years. In the meantime, I’ve relocated across the country and our zoned HS sends 1-2 sports recruits to Brown every year and 1-3 regular kids. I don’t get it!
