Other than Bruce Jenner's Olympic accomplishments, were the Kardashians at all famous before their show? I'm just kinda curious because it doesn't seem like it, but then it doesn't make sense how they got the show if they weren't. Is it just because they're a well-off, blended family with a somewhat famous Dad and a few good looking daughters?

I realize this is a very silly concern to have, but I was watching the show today and DH asked me about it, and I have no idea. I tried wikipedia, and as far as I can tell Kim wasn't really famous before the show, but it doesn't say anything about how the show came about.

Kim's dad was one of O.J.'s lawyers and then she had a sex tape. That's it. So yes, basically they are just famous for being famous.

The family wasn't realy famous after OJ's trial. They became famous after Kim's sex tape. Then peopl became inftuated with her medically enhanced ass.

She is the child of someone who is a Hollywood beauty queen type wife. Really though, they should focus more on Bruce Jenner's kids with Linda Thompson. Brody and Brandon's mom dated Elvis Presley and was married to David Foster. I imagine if Nicollette Sheridan had kids, they would probably be "celebrities."

I don't begrudge Kim her fame any more than Paris Hilton, who is famous because her great grandfather made a lot of $$$.

If these girls are smart, they invest well because this money won't last. I read that Paris's inheritance isn't that large, and that her main income is her "brand" of clothing, etc. That's great for now, good for her, but she is getting less famous by the day so can't imagine that will last. And she used to get paid big money for appearances, but again, not so much anymore.

Yeah, but that kind of stuff is not necessarily good for selling products. That is why her team is trying to diffuse it so much. Her image is definitely changed, mainly because she has aged. At 17, it was sorta fascinating to see this rich, cute, blond socialite who liked to party. She is almost 30, it's not as fun anymore for people to watch. That's why you almost never see Paris featured in Us or other celebrity magazines (which if you can't tell, I love!) because she just doesn't sell magazines. People are less and less interested.

I don't watch the Kadarshian reality show, but I can see the temporary appeal of Kim. She is pretty, for one, and I think for now she is having success selling whatever products she is involved in (I think weight loss/fitness stuff).

I think being as beautiful and stylish as Kim is is enough of a reason to be famous. How is she any different than a model? At least she was smart enough to use her beauty to make a successful career (tv show, clothing store, perfume, etc) so I give her credit for being a smart business woman.

Most of Kim's beauty is the caked on makeup. I have friends that met her when she was with Reggie...not nearly as pretty in person.

Kim was apparently a Paris BFF early in Paris's rise to fame, and she paid attention to how Paris became famous, then used what she learned from that to become famous herself. And now Paris is supposedly upset that Kim is more famous than she is.
