I really enjoy having a couple glasses of wine and a couple of my FILs famous cranberry margaritas on the 24th and 25th, and we typically go out with friends 1-2 times leading up to the NY. I rarely drink the rest of the year.
I’ve been working hard and at a really good place with my weight loss, and I’m debating what to do. I’m willing to scale back food to enjoy the alcohol, but that feels disordered, and family/friends will probably think there’s something wrong. How do you drink without putting on weight? Is it even possible? |
I drink one drink. Water before, during, and after.
I'm mindful of drinking high calorie drinks, or casually eating too many snacks with those drinks (i.e. that basket of chips and salsa that goes with the margarita). |
Sounds like a festive holiday season and I’d enjoy the drinks and work a little harder for a few days post new year. |
I try to cut down the food calories and get a couple of extra workouts in, since I’m upping the alcohol calories.
Try to avoid special cocktails that are high calories. Maybe just a few during the holiday season. Minimize snacking between meals. When I feel bloated or jeans feel tight, I really watch my consumption and drink lots of water. Have maintained so far since Thanksgiving and I’ve had a lot of holiday events. I’m not overweight but relatively lean and am petite, so an extra three pound weight gain isn’t ideal for me. |
Drinking is empty calories. You will have to choose...do you want that or to be skinny?
Nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels. |
Same here OP!! It’s all about balance. You didn’t get fat or skinny over what you ate in a week and you won’t this time either. Just enjoy yourself, cut back on anything else highly caloric and enjoy those great drinks!! I don’t really drink at home anymore, but a couple of nights ago. I opened a great bottle of wine while we did a family puzzle and enjoyed it over a few nights along with extra water and no snacking with the wine. That’s what used to sink me.! And praise God you have people you love to celebrate good times with and enjoy the libations!! |
Enjoy the drinks but don’t let it throw you off. Keep doing what you’re doing and a few drinks won’t matter. If you say oh I’ve had a few drinks I’ve been bad may as well be REALLY bad and then totally get off your routines that’s the real risk. |
Just enjoy the drinks and go back to normal otherwise. I seriously doubt you are going to consume enough excess hooch and garbage food to add up to multiples of 3500 calories. |
I think people who don’t drink aren’t the ones she’s seeking answers from. |
My dietitian says maintaining during the holidays is a win. Don’t go crazy but enjoy your life. You can lose weight in January. |
