PVS January Open - Jan 18, 2025 - Jan 19, 2025- Meet Announcement

Anonymous
Hello everyone,

I’m hoping to find out if anyone knows when the meet announcement for the PVS January Open, set for January 18-19, 2025, will be released. With the holidays just around the corner and the meet quickly approaching, having this information soon would really help us plan our entries more effectively.

Wishing everyone a happy and joyful holiday season!

most meets are usually the same - maybe try looking one from last year?

here is a link to last years-
https://www.pvswim.org/2324meet/24-51-ma.pdf

It will probably be largely the same- possibly some changes to which teams are at which sites depending on numbers from last year but I would expect that the timing and events would be virtually if not completely identical.

Thanks! I also checked out the data from 2022 and 2023, and it looks like there are some small differences in hosts and events on certain days. Here’s the link for reference: https://www.pvswim.org/2223meet/23-50-ma.pdf. Do you know if the hosts will go back to the 2022-2023 schedule? Also, when do hosts usually post meet announcements?

There might not yet be hosts identified.

How do they determine hosts? I vote for hosts that post!!

And that right there is why they might not have hosts. No one wants to deal with the BS.

I'm not totally sure which of these are serious posts vs which of these are intended to be funny- but in general, PVS is begging clubs to host the open meets. The January open meet announcement will be posted as one- it isn't up to individual hosts to post the meet announcement. There is no competition to host open meets.

Begging why? So there aren't hosts yet?

Because Opens are a PITA and a lot of work. AAC hosted an Open last year down in Prince William Co (AAC is located in Arlington), so no where near their practice pools.

One of the great things about PVS is that they hold Opens, which means every club has a meet each month if they are not hosting their own or are not invited to an invitational. They are also less money to attend than an invitational.

Most Local Swimming Committees (LSCs) do not do this, which is why you have USA Swimming trying out things like Block Parties to get kids opportunities to swim in meets. We are very fortunate to have Opens, which means clubs need to host and more importantly all the posters on here need to volunteer for the meets that their kids are swimming in.

Does PVS randomly select hosts if they don't have any clubs volunteer?

No. They can’t force a club to host, and certainly many club are not equipped to host. They will cancel the site or the meet.

No, they cancel the meet site. PVS is fortunate to have Opens, to have a guarantee meet each month is a big deal.

If a meet site is canceled due to a club's inability to host, how are swimmers accommodated? Will they be reassigned to two separate sites or consolidated into one? Thats a big meet!!
