2 weeks in Aug, 2 teen boys, open budget - where?

Planning to splurge with my two kids this summer, but we can’t go until August. I don’t want to risk the sweltering heat that much of southern Europe got last August. We have been to London in Paris, Iceland, Alaska, and the Galapagos which are all good that time of year. We want warm-ish (doesn’t have to be swimming weather, but Australia and New Zealand are out, as our southern parts of South America). I’m looking for out of the box ideas. Thanks!

Option 1: Norway, Sweden, Denmark. The only downside is that some of the scenery may remind you of Alaska/Iceland.

Option 2: Japan

why not stay in the U.S. and do national parks out west. could do lots of neat stuff with an open budget and end up in L.A. and stay on santa monica and do universal tours etc.

The Azores? Lots of outdoorsy stuff to do.

I'd start in Jackson Hole with hiking, rafting, horseback riding, hot air balloon then head up to Yellowstone and one or two more national parks.

Take them on a rafting trip down the middle fork of the salmon river!

Southeast Asia: Thailand, Vietnam.

Or any one or two countries in Asia since you have two weeks.

Japan/korea

Malaysia/singapore/maldives

Dubai/another middle eastern country like Jordan

Spain/morocco

Spain and Morocco will be ungodly hot, as will Thailand and Vietnam. Malaysia and Singapore will be slightly better.

If money is no object consider a family backroads trip to national parks in the north west, (Montana, Wyoming) or Banaff in Canada or Arcadia in Maine, I would not go to Arizona or Utah, too hot.

Think activities before location.

Are they interested in getting scuba certified? You can do the academic and pool training here ahead of time, then pick a destination with amazing scuba diving to finish the certification dives and have few extra fun dives.

Do they want to learn to surf? Hawaii.

Are they into hiking and river rafting? Jackson Hole / Yellowstone. Or New River Gorge for an option closer to home.

What do they want to do? Pick that first, then chose the destination to match.
