What kind of reaction is he looking for? |
No Maret head coach Mark St.Germain coached my kid at breakout which is not an elite club but could be good.He is a great coach and coaches along with malcom lester who was a IAC coach of the year. Both taught my kid a lot but didn't yell and cuss like some other coaches |
My son is a rising 7th grader and we attended the next level Lacrossee camp hosted at Landon a few weeks back in June. My husband who is more familiar with the sport than I am since he played it noted he was impressed with the level of coaching and camper to counselor ratio. Several of the coaches were current landon and gonzaga players.. |
Anyone's son attending the BW camp this week? If so your thoughts? |
Coach Trig is not for the faint of heart. He is a spectacular coach. He knows the game very well and has elected to help his players prepare for the collegiate game by making practices and games intense. He does use the F bomb more than some, but there is full disclosure. If that usage bothers you, then find another program. Trig will not change. He gets your kid ready for playing in college and if the player has the skills, he will do everything he can to make sure your son gets a look from the college coaches. Be prepared for brutal honesty if he does not think your player is ready for the big time. That kind of honesty is hard to come by from most club coaches, many of whom just want your money. Trig and Blackwolf are not just about the dollars. |
The honesty every family is looking for..for example telling the kids they will be f by his high school coaches if they play against them. They might as well bend over and be f. The honesty a younger sibling wants to hear "how his brother is already committed to a college and he is committed to nothing. I guess we missed the small print on his website. I guess that honesty is hard to come by.... |
I'm most sure how good of a coach he truly is - trigg that is.
If you take the best kids from gonzaga, landon, georgetown prep and mix them in with some of the best public school kids from the regions, my guess is the product on the field should be very good. I do think the man works his tail off to get kids into college but he is ver straight with you (parents) and your sons lacrosse ability. |
Your complaints are about Trig's methods, which is certainly up to you. Sometimes his motivation is exactly what is needed to spark a kid. In my experience with him, he would not have said anything to the younger sibling if he did not think it would inspire the kid's performance. If the younger sibling wilted under that approach, that may say more about the player than it does about the coaching. Trig is up front that he will push his players to be their best. If the methods don't work and are detrimental to your player's improvement, then you should pull the kid from the program. Trig would probably agree with that decision. Once you make it, though, I think you need to acknowledge that Trig's approach works well for a lot of players, it just did not work for yours. |
Trig is about poaching great players from other clubs more than actual development.
He has a schtick where he totally believes in this cult of personality he's created. For example, he will not allow the parents of his players to organize a tailgate at tournaments. So instead of sitting under a tent, cooling off, eating some food and actually having fun, the kids and parents have to walk around in the hot sun because this is a "business trip". Ridiculous. There are other clubs and coaches that do just as well for college recruiting but don't need to humiliate their players and establish stupid rules just to prove who is boss. |
Sounds abusive and egotistical. These club coaches are little Napoleons. |
Not al clubs operate that way. I would urge you to look into VLC. |
How does Blackwolf compare to madlax? |
Another vote for VLC. They have amazing coaches and have great success with college recruiting. The oldest team that just graduated had something like 24 guys going to college lax programs. |
Our experience with BW this week was an eye opening one. I do wish their was full disclosure on how the boys would be coached or talked to. Had I known that he would of been subject to the F bomb throughout the day, comparing the boys championship markings on their helmets to M in their closet (bc nobody cares), if someone on your team is bringing you down tell them they suck and lastly no need to be walked to the field bc no one will be molested. The pep talk was that he didn't care if we called to complain because he wld just hang up the phone. I don't believe I wld of wasted the $400 for this lovely experience. He might get players to their D1 schools but at what cost to your son. |
You can talk about clubs and coaches and private lessons and tournaments all you want but the bottom line is this if you have a truly talented kid they are going to find him.
Endof story I'm not going to get into my own sons experience but he came to the game late was supremely talented and ended up going to the top D1 school and I assure you he was not being taught by the top coaches wasn't even necessarily part of the top team though they wanted him. Please do not be foolish enough to think that if they don't have the right coach that They won't play in college if they have the talent and again that is what counts- they will play! |
