Last years scores. AAP in 7th or no?

We transferred from out of district 5th grade (now sixth) and she was tested I guess just as we got here. I know we agreed to have her put in advanced courses but I wasn’t sure on these scores. Half the time I wonder if she needs tutoring to keep up in class her scores and work are not great. I looked in her history and these are scores. Nonverbal seems quite high; just found this site and trying to put scores in context. Welcome help as we try to make plans for 7th grade options next year.

Quantitative 10/14/2023 137
Nonverbal 10/14/2023 155
Verbal 10/14/2023 129
VQN Total 10/14/2023 147

If your child is not doing well in the classroom then they need tutoring or help at home.

And if no academic improvement, just regular classes over aap or honors course work? Or just push forward with AAP and not worry about the grades or quality of work.

It does not seem like understanding or difficulty is the issue. The give a darn just isn’t there.

Either that or an issue such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, stress, etc. Smarts is definitely not the problem. It's somewhere else.

OP, does your DC have friends? Is she happy? Is she struggling from the move? Are there problems at home,

Likely some ADHD as it’s common in the family.

Struggles with friends, a bit from the move but that’s mostly passed, home is a fun place though we don’t push her academically at home like her peers parents/we probably should.

Doing extra work, caring about hand writing/ spelling, finishing or even starting work. As I type this out I realize getting a diagnosis and exploring medication may be the way. I struggle with trying that path as siblings all adapted well.

Also still stuck with the AAP school or honors/regular course work school decision by the end of next week.

You didn't say what middle school your DD will go to. I don't have experience with the big ones, Longfellow etc. At a regular FCPS MS (or regular AAP FCPS MS), stick with AAP. The academics are not that difficult and grades are (for better or worse) meaningless, in middle school.
