Saw Moana 2 today. The visuals are top notch, so kudos to the animators. Story was ok :like a B- or C+.
Lin Manuel Miranda was sorely missed!!! There was not a single good or memorable song. They were all honestly so weak and kinda bad. What a shame. |
| Moana 1 was weak too |
|
Moana 2 was so bad.
Basically what happened was that it was originally supposed to be a series on Disney+. But it was WAY too expensive to hire The Rock to voice 8-10 episodes. So they smooshed all the episodes together and released it as a movie to recoup some of those costs. But they had to cut costs elsewhere, so they hired cheap songwriters, screenwriters, etc. |
| I don't get it... when you have such an amazing hit with name recognition and built in audience, why not stick to the winning formula? Ie Frozen I & II were both enjoyable. |
| I thought most of the songs were okay but the Maui song was just 3 minutes of cringe wishing they'd contracted LMM for one hit. I get it: The Rock can't actually sing so a ballad is out, but these songwriters cannot write a rap, and the end result of them trying anyway was not good. Not good in general and trash compared to You're Welcome. |
The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences would disagree (along with every other human who has seen the movie) |
Moana 1 didn’t do nearly as well as Frozen 1 (made a little more than half of what Frozen 1 did). So it’s riskier to spend that much money on a franchise that may not pan out. Like it barely made more than Big Hero 6, and Big Hero 6 went the series route instead of a sequel. It made more sense for Disney to do Moana 2 as a series since it’s cheaper and less risk of a loss. But not possible since they need The Rock and he’s expensive. So they needed to spend just enough money to make it passable, but not so much that they’d be screwed if it bombed at the box office. |
| My kid loves “Get Lost.” |
| I thought it was fine but I 100% agree on the music. |
|
Didn’t like the movie at all. So many intense scenes with a weak story.
My kid says Moana 3 is already in the making? |
As others have mentioned Moana 2 was supposed to be a Disney+ series. When they decided to give it a theatrical release, LMM had already committed to doing the music for Mufasa. |
| It wasn’t that bad. Plus, the surprise ending is really setting the audience up for a third one with a great villain. Moana is becoming a Demi god—that’s exciting. |
| It was bad, not just the music. The plot was weird and hurried and the team of friends were underdeveloped. But yeah, the songs are bad. |
Huh? |
| I didn’t understand why they dropped Matatamgi entirely and we never find out what happened to her. Her song was also the best. |
