| Including Fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington, Alexandria, cities in between these, etc. |
| 250-450k |
I sure lots of people will say “300k isn’t middle class!” But this is the range that I was thinking too. Two manager level feds would fall into that range. |
Justify it all you want - that's not "middle class" even in NoVa. Get outside of your bubble a bit. |

OMG! How many times a year are we going to debate what is MC or UMC etc.
It's like a bi-monthly tradition on DCUM

| NP. Wondering the same. Current 200k HHI in central NY and have job offer that would bring our HHI to around 350k in nova. Better or worse overall quality of life? |
I would also say 200-300k - 2 feds. |
| Does the answer change for families with a SAHP? |
I think so. A single earner making $200k with 2 kids and a SAH spouse is a horse of a different color than 2 earners making the same & paying for 2 kids in childcare, for example. |
| If you google it - it seems like above $250k is technically not middle class in this area. |
| I think HHI between 150-250k is solid middle class for two earners. |
That's because the area is huge. You cannot buy a house in a nice(ish) area with good schools on $250k anymore unless you have a huge downpayment. |
Burke, Bowie and Bethesda are all in this "area". In one, $250k would be plenty, in one middle class and in one, lower middle class. |
Of course, the salary of one would be totally eaten up by childcare. |
Median household income for a family of 4 is around $150,000 - $170,000 |
