Is it worth it if you have one? I am seeing some excellent Black Friday deals. My fitness is down in the toilet due to high work stress and my teens. Wondering if getting one might be an incentive to be more active? Has it been helpful for you? |
It completely depends on your personality. Are you a someone who will be motivated to close your rings? You set your goals and it will remind you how you’re doing. You have to wear it though. It’s nice to see stats after a walk or a bike ride, very motivating for me personally, but I don’t obsess about closing rings as long as I manage to be active overall.
I love my watch and I do think it helps me stay active. |
No. Have one and really do not like it. At least consider a fitbit if you want all the gizmo stuff. If you just want a nicer watch, then get one without the gizmos.
I got it on the advice of an MD to be able to measure heart stuff - but those features are not always available when I want to use them. At one point Apple broke ekg for me with one software update, but they would not admit it. About a year later it started working just after a different Apple software update, but Apple still did not admit they broke it. |
If fitness is your focus you’d be better off with a Garmin or Fitbit. Apple Watch has tons of useless features and is a waste of money. I bought one a few years ago but will be replacing it with a Garmin when the time comes. |
For fitness I agree. I have a garmin fenix and iWatch and the garmin is definitely better for fitness tracking. It’s a great sports watch and a mediocre smart watch. The apple is a mediocre sports watch and a great smart watch. The battery life on the fenix is also probably 10 times what it is on the apple. |
I've been using a watch of some sort for years. When i switched to the Apple watch a few years ago (6, I think) I found it to be high maintenance.. too heavy, needed to be charged every day, some features didn't work as well as promised, etc. Gave it to my wife who likes it and subsequently, my kids also ended up getting the iwatch. My specific needs are simple - Track steps, heart rate, sleep and workouts; alert me when when i get emails, calls and texts; Be light enough so i don't notice I'm wearing it; Battery should last at least a week. That's about it. I don't need built in GPS, don't want to store music on my watch nor speak into it when someone calls. Currently use the Amazfit BIP. It does everything I want perfectly and the version I'm wearing (3) was $30 when i bought it last year. I think they are at version 7 now. |
I have one. I don't love it. I don't use it much beyond looking at it as an actual watch to see what time it is, and looking at it when it buzzes me when a text or call comes in. Which I'd rather not do, tbh -- I do not love being that connected. I have my darn phone with me all the time anyway. Occasionally I take a call on my watch if my phone is in the other room and I feel super lazy.
I bought it about 6 months ago because I thought it would help me step up my fitness game. But it just isn't functional in the same way that a fitbit I had a few years ago was. That thing encouraged me to exercise. The Apple watch doesn't; or if it does, I haven't figured out how to use it in that way. So yeah, I thought it would be an incentive to be more active, and it has not been. YMMV, though. I will likely go back to a regular watch at some point. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't buy it. |
My husband and kids live theirs. |
I’d love to be inspired to ok! Share if you learn how to get it to motivate you to work out. |
I have an older refurb Apple watch that I bought years ago on Woot after my fitbit battery died. I like my Apple watch better for exercising. I found it easier than the Fitbit. The downside is battery life. I don't like that I need to charge it every day. |
I don't think it is going to happen, lol. |
I have recently gone back to mechanical watches after six (?) years with an Apple Watch. I still put it on for workouts and then immediately take it off. I originally thought it was helping my stress as I wasn't constantly on my phone scrolling, but after several years I realized always being connected is just not good for my mental health. I need breaks. So while it *maybe* helped my physical health for a bit, it was not good for the brain. YMMV. |
I wouldn't have bought myself one, but I just won a series 10 in a work raffle. Only had it for a week.
It's ok so far. I had been wearing mechanical watches for almost the last 20 years, so this is a bit different. I need to turn off a bunch of the notifications and we'll see where it goes. I might give it to my son if I end up not liking it. |
