| I recently had surgery to remove lymph nodes under my right arm. I realized I am not going to easily be able to brush and dry my hair for awhile. After having my husband try to help a couple times, I went to my hairdresser and asked her to cut it to just below my shoulders (was mid back). The picture I showed her was also clearly below shoulders after being styled. She chopped it to nearly to my chin - and that’s with it completely straight. I hate it. Like, wanted to cry all day yesterday and was up all night dreading seeing it in the mirror again. It makes my nose look huge and my hair look thinner than it already did. I teach middle school, and they’re savages, so that’s also going to be fun. On top of that, I’m mad at myself for spending so much on custom color when it’s now chopped so short it feels like it doesn’t even matter. Words of advice or commiseration for getting through hating my hair for the foreseeable future? Vitamins to help it grow faster? |

OP there are some ideas here. I love the textured waves. I know it doesn't help much if you can't lift your right arm, but some volumizing or blow out spray and then some curls in there with a flat iron to puff it all up? Maybe DH could do that?

| Get a dyson airwrap. It will make styling it cuter easy and not damage your hair very much to help grow out. |
| Or look into wigs while it grows out. Lots of good options for under $300 |

^^also you are such a critic. Don't look at yourself through those kids eyes! I doubt your hair looks thinner! A lot of times a shorter cut will make it look fuller.
I definitely have commiseration on hating a haircut but it would be too long to explain. In short, it did grow out! |
| You are probably a bigger critic on yourself than anyone else would be but I do totally understand how you are feeling. As for the students, as you said they are savages so please try to ignore anything negative from them. |
| FFS, it will grow back. |
| It will grow fast. Chin length is what they used to cut mine too and it is unflattering with my longer narrow face. It's also unflattering with round faces. I stopped going to the hairdressers as I always got unflattering cuts. I just cut it myself and pin it up with a clip. |

When I have had a bad haircut, especially too short:
Great earrings - maybe buy some new ones you really like Pretty sparkly hair pin - something else to distract and look at New makeup or color on eyes It will grow back! And then you will have the bonus of enjoying it more than you probably did before. |
So, the same thing happened to me at the beginning of April - I showed the hairdresser several photos of how long I wanted my hair and she cut it much shorter. I was very bummed. Seven months later, it is exactly how I wanted it cut in April (not sure if that is helpful to you or makes it worse, but at least there is a timeline). So about 4 inches in 7 months. In the interim, I wore my hair in a ponytail quite a bit and bought clip-in hair extensions that I occasionally wore with my hair down, but more often wore with my hair up, to give me more of a ponytail. I tried Vegamour shampoo and didn't notice a difference. I did start oral minoxidil. I'm not sure if that helped with growing faster, it was more because my hair was thinning. If you had lymph nodes removed, you are probably dealing with some health issues. I was, too. I know it's "just hair," but when you are going through other things happening to your body, it's just a bummer when you have to deal with hair issues, too. You have my sympathy. |

| This is the dumbest post ever. Hair grows, OP. Get over it. |

I sympathize, OP. 11:26 has it right. You're allowed to be upset. I am still growing out a really bad haircut from August. There are too many haircutters who are scissor happy.
I've been doing half up with a clip. It's a more flattering look for me that down when the bad haircut is more obvious. |
Something similar happened to me. A hair dresser I had loved years before had moved and when she came back years later I was so excited to make an appt with her. One of my kids had been through a life threatening medical experience and our family had been through other trauma in the previous months. I told her about it at my appt. It was my first haircut in a long time and my friend ignored everything I said and cut my very long hair off. It was short in the back and slightly longer in the front. It was so short I couldn't do anything with it. I have good, easy hair. I had specifically asked for no more than an inch off the length. It looked horrible for months. It would only do one thing and it would puff up and look like a mushroom. It was the worst cut I've ever had. I didn't say a word and tipped her too well. It made me realize how many times my family has gone to a hair salon and had the stylist not do what was requested. One kid hates fades and has beautiful curly hair. I made the appt and made it clear NO FADE. Kid went to appt and said NO FADE. Guess what the b did? It was the worst cut he's ever had and when I called the salon to complain, the owner just made excuses. I cancelled the appt I made for myself and have never gone back. I told one stylist I had used for years that I wanted to keep my hair long and was trying to grow it out. I left with a Florence Henderson shag. The stylists at this salon would be openly critical of their customers and more than once were confrontational that they would do what they wanted. We all need to get over tolerating this and speak up at the salon before we leave. I've never been comfortable doing this but now I am militant. For any stylist reading this, know that at least one group of people are going to make a scene in the salon when you act like an egotistical dLck and ignore what your client wants. |
There are too many haircutters who completely ignore what their customers want. |
