14lb frozen turkey…my dad left it on the patio. Still wants to use it.

I’m doing most of the cooking for the family so I bought a 14lb frozen turkey before I went out of town on Thursday. There was no room in the fridge at the moment, so my dad put it on the patio that night. This was fine because it was frozen solid and cold that night and cold the next day - fine for it to thaw out. I just got back from my trip and I asked him if he put in the fridge. He said no but it’s fine. I reminded him that it’s been outside since Thursday and I checked the weather yesterday and it was in the mid to low 60s over the weekend. He got angry and said I should’ve told him to bring it in (didn’t know that I needed to). Again, he insisted that it would be fine and to just “smell it”. I did. It smelled fine. He touched it and said, “it’s still got some coolness to it. It’s not like it was melting outside so you don’t know”. I said I didn’t want risk feeding multiple people with “I don’t know turkey”. He got angry again and said he’d just toss it.

So, again, completely frozen 14lb turkey left on the patio from Thursday night until 5am Tuesday morning - safe or not?

No, so sorry; you could really poison yourself eating it. Just go get a new one and let it go.

Sorry that seems risky to me...toss.

Toss. Better safe than sorry.

He's mad because he messed up. Toss it.

No!

I am pretty chill about food safety, but that is crazy!!

When in doubt, throw it out.

Want me to tell you about the time we all got food poisoning? Ok then throw it out.

I want to hear about it! Was it from a patio turkey?

I’m pretty loosey-goosey about these things, but even I would toss it. Just buy another turkey.

Another toss it vote. And I will eat most things that would send DCUM into cardiac arrest.
