North Bethesda Middle School - any feedback?

Any feedback on North Bethesda MS - positive or negative? Quality of academics, communication with teachers, extracurriculars offered are areas of interest in particular.
Thanks in advance.

Middle school is a rough time in the lives of the kids. NBMS in most ways is managed like a prison.

What does this mean? More details please PP!

I have a 6th grader there. He loves a few of his teachers, and the others are fine. No bad ones. It is a really big school. Lots of clubs after school. Principal is good.

Thank you! What is something you wish you knew before you started there that needs improvement?

lol, you obviously haven't seem the video of her screaming at the kids in the cafeteria, for which she was put on leave a few years ago.

This is part of the MCPS problem, teachers and admins are forever, parents and students are transient

They have LOTS of rules, monitor security cameras, have security guards standing by at lunch, inflict punishment on all for the wrongs of a single student. Tons of turnover in the guidance office, as they all seem to want a job at WJ.

Screaming to tell the kids to sit down, and be quiet? An Assistant Principal and Principal at other MS have also done this, should we report them?

I’ve been a parent there for nine years now—that incident was during her first year which was I think 8 years ago. She’s fine from what I can tell and has settled in. There are some really great teachers there, lots of good/fine ones, and a few that are not great. There are some dumb rules from some teachers about things like bathroom use, which can make the school feel somewhat prison like. And the music department is weirdly intense. But generally I think it’s a pretty good school for a large public middle school. It has some great extracurriculars — a very popular ski club, a world class model UN team, a science Olympiad team, a math competition team and new this year a robotics team.
