English Teacher on Hulu

The lead actor keeps showing up on my Insta feed doing the same dance to the same song. I don’t know what my algorithm is built from, but I digress.

Watched one ep and it was ok. Anyone stick with it? Is it worth it?

It was ok? What? The first episode of and all that followed were amazing. If you didn't like the first one, you're not the audience.

NP. I'm not the audience because the lead and his woman BF were too messy for me. I didn't like their talks with each other either.

I gave up. It was so over the top unrealistic (teacher here) that it was painful to watch. I wanted it to be better!

I LOVE this show. It’s like Abbot Elenentaty but more profane and the kids are teens.
I especially recommend it if you have teens because the generation gap between the teachers and the kids is not that different from the generation gap between your teens and you. One of the running themes of the show is that the teachers think they are still young and hip but the students regularly make them feel old AF. It also does a really good job of gentling needling the excesses of both sides of the culture wars.
The episode with the “asymptomatic Tourette’s” was hilarious.

Agree with PP: it’s Abbott Elementary for high school. I’ve been a public school educator for over 20 years and have learned to suspend my disbelief with these shows around what school is really like. That allows me to simply enjoy the comedy.
Just finished watching this series and would definitely recommend it. Brian Jordan Alvarez is very talented.

The instagram thing of him doing that same dance every day and taking his shirt off in different places is funny.

The show is ok although it’s very in your face with its gayness. I like it though but it’s your basic funny sitcom.

I wanted to like it based on the reviews. I tried for two episodes and it felt stilted and annoying.

Did anyone else hear the rumors about the writer/star Brian Alvarez? Ick. TLDR: sounds like he is a serial SA’r and the actress who plays his BFF is complicit. She gave me the biggest ick - imagine her comments directed toward a female victim. Cannot watch those dance videos anymore!

I found it boring after 1st episode. Don’t feel this way about AE.

I'm old but enjoyed the high school show Never Have I Ever. Is this similar?

I did read about this. Don’t know if it’s true or not but interesting it’s coming to light now. Some of the accusations are years old.

Truth be told, I found the show over the top in its depictions gay relationships and situationships, and just kind of vulgar. Some parts of the show are funny but I feel like you can’t say anything critical about the way gay relationships are being portrayed without sounding like a homophobe. And I am far from a pearl-clutcher.

Agree with the previous teacher that everything shown on the show in a high school is Sooooo unrealistic. Not even funny for the sake of it, either.

Agree completely. I also don’t like the way the female teacher (yes there’s only 1, how realistic is that?? In a high school? ) is depicted. That is his real life bestie and the one who is defending his inappropriate actions in real life.

Given how messy the characters on the show are, it's not a huge surprise they are messy in real life, too.

The SA accusation seems ick but not criminal, if that makes sense. Makes me very glad to be old and married, and not part of some hot young crowd trying to make it in entertainment.

The show is really good, though!
