I tried to “gift” it so anyone can read it…

For the stated purpose of boosting diversity, this certainly seems like it would work.

I know Brown values cc students. Also has a fair number of older return to learning students and vets. So important to have this diversity.

It sounds nice but wouldn't such a move make the university less elite?
At the end of the day, they are a business with a brand to protect.

Think the Richard Bland to William and Mary is a thing. On- campus living for two years so I am guessing more expensive. We have a kid at W&M who knows many transfers from there.

It's an Opinion Editorial (Op-Ed) piece, but a noble idea.

Thanks for sharing via "gift."

UVA SCHEV data showed only 70% of transfer students completing their degree. I assume there are a lot of cc students in there. It’s a very bad deal for the 30% who leave UVA. Author’s Berkeley has different stats of 90% completion.

This attitude is precisely the problem with your so-called elite universities. They are in fact NOT merely a business. They are an Eleemosynary institution. Their mission is to create and disseminate knowledge, not create an ultra-exclusive club.

A CC student who rocks the required courses to transfer into a place like that has a better track record of college performance than most “high stats” HS students so there no reason it should dilute their precious brand anyhow.

This is the most DCUM comment ever.

Yes, really. That article speaks to racial diversity. Yes, it's a bummer, and hopefully, next year will be better, but I was referring to a different diversity. Diversity is more diverse than race. Brown has a significant presence of vets, older students and cc students. Also ROTC.

It depends why the student is at CC.

That's an offtopic article about race.

lol, no. Taking some community college students is not going to make Brown “less elite.”

And your biases are showing. I went to community college (well, technically it was city college) and given my academic credentials and work you certainly wouldn’t guess it.
