Elementary report card useless?

3s across the board and seems like the teacher just copy/pasted same text for every student. Comments don't reflect knowledge he's demonstrated in testing, in day-to-day work he's bringing home, or as discussed in PT conference.

What's the point of this?

Ya pretty useless. Although their iReady scores are very informative. You can find your kid's percentile here:

Report cards are useless. I wish they didn’t make teachers do them.

Their narratives used to be more individual but a few years ago they change things. Not sure why, but they probably have less time to complete them all.

I now find myself trying to explain to my 6th grader that while we didn’t really care about report cards in elementary school, we now need to start caring a little bit.

My kids all got all 4s for specials. All 3 kids in every single one. This has not been the norm before -- especially not for 1st quarter. Did something change with the grading policy for those?

Interesting! Yeah, teachers have told me that specials teachers like to give 3s at first so that they can show "growth" as the year goes on.

My second grader got high above grade level scores on iready reading but only 3s on their report card. I found that confusing.
All 4 is specials

Mine too. I think it has to do with sloppy classroom work and being a natural at standardized testing.

Specials teachers here. Not true. We give grades that reflect the work students are doing in the classroom in real time, not for projected growth. If your kid got a 3, it's because they deserved the 3. Your teacher was trying to sugarcoat it for you.

My 4th grader has started each year with 3s and ended with 4s and I was told the same as the PP by multiple teachers. So either the entire profession is sugarcoating for every parent or you’re not correct.

If you have a child with an IEP - I have found it to be valuable input to use when making a case that your child is not getting enough support.

No one understands what the 1234 grades mean in the first place, and then you all try to “sugarcoat” them? What is there to sugarcoat?

I’d assume all 4s in specials means a kid is a delight to have in class. Specials teachers, in particular, are behavior heavy in their grading. All 4s likely means not just not a behavioral issue, but a kid that makes class easier by participating, etc.

They'll get 4's by the end of the year. Most teachers move everyone up for the last quarter.

If there are all 3s across the board but the standardized test scores reflect below grade level, what do we think is happening?
