| When I was my DDs age (13) on the occasional Friday evening my mom would leave my dad and brothers home and take me out to the mall, where we’d get a sweet food court snack like a Cinnabon to share, and then we’d wander around and she’d let me pick out a new article of clothing. I’d love to start a tradition like this with my DD, but she has no interest in shopping, and with malls dying at the closest mall for us being a good half hour away, I probably need to think of a different plan. But what? I’m stumped! I don’t want the onus to plan these mother/daughter outings to fall on her. I’d love any ideas! |

What does you daughter like?
Movies Sports events (support local women's teams, WNBA or soccer or the local college?) Special evening events at the Zoo /nature center pancakes for dinner and go to Ihop evening hours at a museum just go out to dinner/dessert - pizza and ice cream |
|
Book store Cafe drink, snack and find a book to read
A dinner and city walk afterward Pottery painting Bowling |
|
Does she like books?
I go with DD to bookstores and then we finish up with Starbucks or dinner |
| My DD likes trying out every new hot pot restaurant that opens near us. Depending on her food preferences, you could try something like that, even if it's eating at different Italian restaurants in search of the best tiramisu or Mexican restaurants in search of the best fried ice cream. |
|
You might need to try several different things until you figure out what your daughter enjoys.
Hiking Puzzles Pedicure Live music Theater Volunteering at animal shelter together |
|
Book store and bubble tea.
Conveyor belt sushi. Pottery painting place (our local one is all 20-something women on friend outings and mother/daughter pairs). |
| Ice skating and hot chocolate. |
|
My dd is 22, never been a shopper or mani/pedi kind of girl, here are things that have been fun over the years, they change as she gets older and her interests evolve.
Theater performances (we both love musical theater or any plays really, doesn't have to be the highest level we've seen loads of great community stuff) History museums/history walks Destination bookstores (as in, need to travel a bit but bigger/more interesting than our immediate local ones) Cooking new recipe at home (i'm sous chef) |
| Also, I actually still take my daughter to the mall and she loves it! Not my thing, but a couple of hours is pretty good chatting time. |
| My teen daughter and I are bookworms. Her favorite outing is to wander a bookstore and then out for coffee or lunch together. We have been doing that since she was little. |
| Face masks, iced coffees/matcha or boba, plus an at home movie or show. |
|
^Such great ideas! Warms my heart.
When my daughter was a tween/young teen, she'd sometimes go running with me. Or we'd take a yoga class at the gym. Starbucks afterward! |
|
I basically only go to Starbucks and have the app because my teen daughter likes to go.
We also go to,Sephora or a bit of shopping but usually only for her. Hahaha. We watch some tv shows together. Sometimes I pick and sometimes she does. We just watched Disclaimer which was, in her opinion, mid. Frankly sometimes we just go on a minor errand together like cvs. We also have been known to hit the McDonald’s or Taco Bell drive through 1-2 times a month. That’s how I discovered Taco Bell has Cinnabon donut holes as dessert that are delicious. |
|
Also agree, trying bubble tea is a love for my dd as well.
We usually do this stuff on sat or Sunday afternoons. |
