health in summer between 9th and 10th grades

Anonymous
I've seen people talk about students taking the required health class(es) between 9th and 10th grades. Could someone give me a bit more detail on how that works? Is it in person or virtual? If in person, is it at the home high school? Or if in person, is it a class that kids do all together, or is it just do-at-your-own-pace? And do you know the length of the course? And finally, when is sign up usually? Thanks so much - trying already to figure out camp counselor dates sign ups and realizing that health class is something I want to take into account.

You can do it starting the summer before 9th, so some kids do it between 8th and 9th. Kids have to take to classes - Health A and Health B. You can either do it online or at your school, if they offer it. Its a lot of busy work - 3-5 assignments a day over three weeks.

This is the regional summer school program - some schools offer something different.

Here is more information about online health ed - they offer it at different times, including during the school year. https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/onlinelearning/courses/

You may have to pay for it if you take it out of the school year.

They did charge per class last summer but worth it to get it over with.

It's $150 per class, I believe. We picked the Central Office summer school, 100% virtual. There are required virtual classes and study outside of class. DD took Health A and Health B the summer before 9th grade. As PP said, go on the website. I don't know if you'll get exact dates this early however.

Full tuition was $364.25 per class last summer but there were two levels of tuition waivers.

Hmm, I remember paying that for two classes (both semesters).

I would just take it during the school year online. No extra charge.

Last year's fees are still posted on the site:

That’s a good idea. One less source of stress for busy high school students.

The online central summer school starts in late June and ends early August if you do both semesters. There are two choices of time for each class ( day or evening) and you have to stick with one time slot consistently. Classes meet mostly MWF but there are strange exceptions. Drop in zooms are available on other days if help is needed.

Was it as boring and busy work like during the summer if you know how it was in the summer?
