| I assume they're traditionally Democratic, but there seems to be a lot of anger at Biden and Blinken in the community related to their handling of the conflict in the region. Any idea how they voted? |
| The ones I know generally voted for Biden and then Harris. Generally, def a couple of Trump supporters in there, but that was from 5 years ago. |
| Most are Coptic, so assume 90% Christian-nationalists. |
| Every Ethiopian I’ve ever met has been a very conservative Christian, except for two, who were very conservative Jews. All were either apolitical or voted republican. |
| I guess white progressive liberals are tired of blaming Latinos so they need to find another group to blame? |
| They hate Somalis so believe it or not they tend to vote Republican. They pride themselves on being one of the first if not the first Christian country ever and they’re the only one in Africa (along with Egyptian Copts) with a church that wasn’t brought in by white people/missionaries. |
| Ethiopians have a large Israeli population too so you have to figure that in. They are concerned for their relatives safety. They tend to be conservative although the younger gens of Ethiopian Americans born here are liberal and align with the left politically |
The Israelis hate the Ethiopians in their country, so that’s the bigger danger to them. The government tried to offer them financial incentives to go home but they didn’t bite. They have protested a few times about the treatment they get there to no avail. I don’t think they have a future there, they are probably not far down the list of those to be removed. If I had to guess I would say they are probably next after Israeli Arabs. |
And younger Ethiopians know that very well but older Ethiopians remember the mayhem of communism post Haile Selassie in the 1970s and how that bankrupted once the richest country in Africa and brought it to the abyss of hunger and destitution and Carter did nothing but Reagan and Bush saved them and he brought in tons of Ethiopians as refugees so there’s some that have loyalty to republicans because of that. Some vote Democrat. It’s a split party situation |
Yup. This isn't talked about enough. Every time the whiny Jews talk about discrimination, I bring up this. And the involuntary sterilization of Ethiopian women who emigrated to Israel. No one wants to talk about that. |
“Whiny Jews”? Wow. Should we discuss whiny Muslims? |
That's what the Israelis did. When they were Ethiopian Jews fled to Israel from the civil war, the Israelis made them second class citizens and blamed them for financial problems. |
Then you would be talking about the Eritreans who were in a civil war with Ethiopian for years. About half of them are Muslims and they complain that the US doesn't give them the same advantages in immigration as the Ethiopians. |
| Ethiopians seem to identify with Israel, but few of them really know any Israelis.... |
Which is a good illustration of how damaging and corrupting the American left is, as it literally destroys cultural ties between generations of families. |
