Hayfield Gym WTF!!!

Anonymous
I just saw Hayfield's gym and WTF???How is there this much of a difference in facilities between Hayfield and every other gym I've seen in the county?

Robinson has the best gym.

There is a huge disparity in facilities.

Hayfield's gym is one of the better ones.

Annandale, Edison and Westfield were the crappiest.

We went to a tournament there and I remember thinking it was one of the better gyms we had been to.

The FCPS secondary schools have humongous gyms. They are all about 50 years old though. For the larger of the smaller-sized, new generation of gyms, Arlington has some nice ones: Wakefield, W-L.

People are always blown away by the Wakefield gym.

Fairfax HS has a nice gym

It’s big. But it’s showing its age. And the ceiling looks lame compared to Hayfield, Robinson, etc.

Robinson’s ceiling makes it look like a nicely designed college arena from the 70s or 80s.

The W-L gym is awful. It is dark and looks like a middle school gym. It gives W-L a huge home advantage because the weird dimensions and poor lighting tend to throw other teams off.

The Justice gym is awful. TJ’s gym got renovated but it is really small.

W-L’s gym is large and actually nice. It looks nothing like a middle school gym. It is huge and larger than all the other Liberty District high schools gyms.

But when Arlington put new LED fixtures in, that actually made the gym darker.

It’s not nice at all for HS events. Maybe it’s good for subdividing over 700 freshmen for PE.

I still doubt you’d want to trade the large W-L gym for the small gyms at McLean or Langley.

It’s actually in Fairfax County. The architecture firm did a good job.

Both of those gyms are nicer, more traditional gyms. Langley’s was recently renovated; McLean’s is somewhat larger than Langley’s in terms of seating. And the lighting is much better.
