Schools and Education General Discussion
I was assuming kids would not be included in back to school night (too crowded) so I got a babysitter. Is that right?
Yes..most parents come alone. A few kids might tag a long if the parents couldn't get a sitter but generally it is parents only.
Yes, it's parents only.
Some schools have childcare in the gym - don't assume it, though.
Our school has a room where students can go if they come for Back to school night. I think a couple of school staff watch them.
Every school is different OP. Check first next time!
Back to school night is almost always kid-free.
You did the right thing. Only people who have no options bring their kids and even then it is always a distraction.
Right 20:11 but some schools provide sitters.
I bring my child, but I'm a single parent. I'm not the only one. One benefit is that it demonstrates concretely to my child that the school and I are in communication, or "in cahoots," if you will.
News to me. My experience is that it's not unusual for kids to attend back to school night.
My son's school always has a lot of kids at back to school night. No sitters. They go to the classroom with the parents.
My kid is not old enough yet but I never would have dreamed of leaving my kid home.
We were specifically told during orientation that back to school night was for parents ONLY. The did say that if there was some emergency and a sitter was unavailable that kids could come. In that instance, I would say have one parent come and the other stay home with the kids. It'll probably be boring for them anyway since it's mostly an informational night for parents.
Janney Parent here: It is incredibly annoying to have no childcare provided we have 3 kids --one is a baby a and a sitter is $60-70 for the 3 of them. That is grocery or kid's shoe money.I realize many families in the neighborhood can do this; it is, however presumptuous for the the administration to assume this -- it is a burden to our family and my husband usually has to stay home with the kids--if he isn't traveling or simply cannot get away from work. When that happens I really hate the dirty, quizzical looks I get when I bring my brood to back to school. Plu the fact that it just makes it so stressful to keep them under control at the school and get any constructive info from teachers and staff, etc. |
