My DD is 10 and she has three friends whose parents are paying between 7-8 grand to take their kids to see Taylor Swift in another city. She was momentarily sad that she can't go too but it is really not a financial option for us, and even if it was, I don't know that I would spend that kind of money. She gets it. A couple of her friends are just devastated and their parents feel terrible and are trying to figure out a way to go.
Is this going on at other elementary schools? We do not live in a keeping up with the Joneses part of NoVA so this just seems a little odd to me. |

It is not 7-8k. Sorry. You could do this for under $1500 for two nights easily. Tickets are a few hundred each, flights can be used with miles or a few hundred each and hotel for 2 nights.
|
lol you tell me where you can find tickets for a few hundred. |
This is the OP. These specific parents told me how much they spent. I was kind of surprised but then looked at the actual ticket prices. If you are taking two adults and a kid, plus hotel (which are all jacked up), plus flights, it gets there quick! The tickets alone for one family were 8k. Telling a huge group of moms that is a weird humblebrag but I do think it's true. |
| It's just insanely expensive, and I've gone online so many times to see if we could swing it. But I think we'd get more out of a vacation this summer instead of one night in New Orleans or Indianapolis. If I had money to burn, I'd be there with my DD (11) in a heartbeat. |
| I haven't heard of any of the kids at our elementary school (MoCo) have seen her, even the Taylor obsessed ones. |
Ha, that is so cute! A few hundred. I paid $800 each early in the tour and we drove and stayed overnight. It was probably about 2K all in. Totally worth it and would do it again. I have some regrets about not going to one of the European tour dates because I think it would have been super fun to plan a trip that included a TS show. |
Right?!? I think last minute tickets in NOLA were going for around $685 at 8:00 pm - when she took the stage. I guess you could make that work? If you were already there?
|
Tickets are $2k EACH on the reselling sites. Before any flights or hotels. So yes, $8k is about right. OP, I also have a 10 year old DD. We've discussed how this just isn't how we are spending our money. So while I'd LOVE to take her I just can't justify the expense. She knows a few kids who have gone, but our school is pretty chill so it's hardly a thing that many others have done. Getting used to not having everything they want is ok too. |
And then you're in a situation where you HAVE to buy tickets because you are there and will have a massively disappointed little kid if you don't get any. It's just not a good idea. Maybe 2 adults could handle it, but no way I'm putting my DD through that for it not work out. Or to then feel pressured to spend $4k on last minute tickets. |
| My SIL got tix in the nosebleed section in New Orleans for $900. I thought that was insane. |
I think that is pretty inexpensive! I am seeing like 2500 plus for partially obstructed seats. |
Right. If it was just me - I'd fly to Indianapolis and hang out just to see if I could get a cheap ticket last minute. Not doing that with a kiddo. |
Flights for 2 people at "a few hundred" is $600. Hotel for $300 a night, total is now $1200. Good luck finding tickets for $150 each. "Easily" lmao you are bad at math. |
| Yes, every week after Spring Break/Xmas/Summer Break my kids ask me if we are going to Italy, the French Polynesian, skiing in the Alps, Egypt, the Northern Lights... to name a few. |
