Metro station was shut down, there were crowds of literally hundreds of teens milling around up and down M St, several shootings , more than a dozen robberies by groups of teens from 2nd and M all the way to Hill East.
What precipitated this? Was there a concert or something last night? |
| Also robberies at Navy Yard. And more, but I'm not going to look into it. Too depressing. |
| Wow. I can tell I'm turning into an old lady, but jeez. Some of these kids were not raised right. I wonder how this was organized. Sounds like a social media thing. |
| These crimes were organized on social media. There is the growing perception on social media, especially tick tock, that DC is very easy/lenient on youth crime and thus there is very little risk involved for larcenies. |
They're not wrong |
| Was Metro shutdown to ensure that there would enough victims to assault? |
Why would a concert result in shootings? |
To contain the offenders in one area vs. marauding on the metro. |
I'm turning into an old lady too. Jeez is right. Something needs to change and hard discussions need to be had but this isn't sustainable. |

Start with giving out tickets for eating food on metro.
Next tickets for jumping turnstiles. Collect on camera tickets. ----------------------- I was in another US city earlier this week and was shocked when I saw police out pulling cars over. |
It’s not a perception. These kids know that nothing will happen to them, and that unarmed residents of DC are sitting |

Did the police show up to catch the contained offenders or did they hope it would just "die down?" |
I have a different idea. How about we start with prosecuting and punishing violent offenders. |
