Canceled Wapo - suggestions for local sports coverage?

Anonymous
I will miss the wapo sports section. Any recs where I can read about DC sports online?

Pro sports = The Athletic

HS sports = random YouTube channels showing games. No reporting.

Also there are lots of substacks and newsletters for individual sports/leagues

The Athletic is good. They frequently run $1 month specials.

Athletic is great for college sports too. I have both WaPo and the Athletic. I was going to cancel my WaPo but cancelled all my subscriptions with Amazon and am going to aim to shop more local/small companies directly and use Target as a backup. I have been meaning to anyway!

I just renewed my subscription with the Athletic. I love it. Best sports reporting.
Buy it through the NTY's website.

Do you have a library card? It likely allows you access to the Post.

Twitter/X has great high school sports coverage. Just need to follow the right schools/reports/etc.

I would assume OP cancelled in protest not to save $$.

Did you cancel your Amazon Prime, too? Doing so would be more beneficial than canceling your Post subscription.

Why? I saw a news headline about this but there was a pay wall. I can’t compare wapo to prime. Prime has so many benefits - videos, delivery, grocery delivery…wapo is just news which should be free or close to it.

Agree that the Athletic is excellent.

(Also have to add that I disagree with cancelling Post subscriptions in response to Bezos. Reporters are not responsible for the editorial decision and still doing good work. And thinking news should be free is precisely why things have gone downhill, PP.)

How would this be beneficial?

DP. Because it would send a stronger message to Jeff Bezos, the person responsible for the editorial decision that people are cancelling in protest of.

I personally don’t get canceling a WaPo subscription over this. Why put a nail in the coffin of a very liberal newspaper if you care about liberal issues? Seems very self-defeating. Bezos isn’t getting rich off of WaPo. It’s a charity case for him.
