Some got an email that adult men are yelling at tiny high school freshman female referees because their daughters need to take out their earrings or not play. This happened on 3 teams, no wonder they can’t hire refs.
Apparently this has been going on for years: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/15/655419.page For rec soccer!! |
| You can't wear earrings in soccer. The kids should know this as should the refs. Parents shouldn't be screaming at anyone; but what an absolutely stupid thing to not take care of before a game starts. |
| Soccer parents? Does this surprise you? Idiots. |
| I got that email - I am not at all defending yelling at those young refs or any of this boorish behavior, but I do think that this rule seems kind of dumb if we're talking about something like piercing studs that are taped over. This is an age when a lot of girls are getting their ears pierced, are trying to work around back-to-back and overlapping sports schedules, and rec soccer is not exactly high contact. |
Then challenge the rule with appropriate people, don’t challenge the ref who is paid to enforce the rule. Soccer dads are the worst. |
Agreed - as I said, not defending the parent behavior... |
Girls who want to play soccer shouldn't be getting their ears pierced then. |
I wouldn't say that but you time it out to have it done after the season or whenever you won't need to take them out. That's what we had to do for both of our daughters. |
When my daughter has gotten hers pierced we used these rubber stud replacements for games or just took them out if required (for basketball). The refs don’t make the rules so don’t give them a hard time. |
Buh buh then we have basetball season and pool season and that doesn’t work either… |
Guess you have never met the soccer moms. |

No earrings. If the team as a whole doesn't understand this simple safety rule, they should be reprimanded. Not yelled at, but spoken to firmly. |
| It's not a new rule and it's not unique to soccer. ArlDad needs to get a grip. |
| My DD just went through ref training. I got there for the last bit but the instructor was telling them how it is absolutely forbidden and they need to enforce it. They are enforcing the rules that they were taught. Shame on all you small adults for attacking these young refs. This is why my husband and I are always at the games my kids ref. We are there to monitor these ridiculous parents. |
| As a former rec coach, this was always a battle with parents. Almost every equipment check in with the refs, at least one girl had their earrings in. Email reminders to parents never worked. It's a safety issue, even with studs. |
