Does anyone have one?
Trying to figure out what our options are for my son. Thanks. |
It is hard to maintain a comprehensive list because clubs come and go, and some have teams only for certain age levels. I would argue that you don't need a comprehensive list because one parent's comprehensive list may not be feasible to another parent. The location may be one of the most important factors. If you live in Gaithersburg, knowing that there is a team in Franconia/Springfield may not be useful information. You can look up the rankings to figure out what clubs were active last year (https://www.advancedeventsystems.com/rankings/Male/U14/aes). You may have to change the age group and the season once you click that link. |

Age 11, within reasonable driving distance of northern VA.

Here is a guide of rec, high school and travel for
Boys volleyball https://www.novaboysvb.org/ |
| I think MD juniors may have boys ? That site doesn’t appear to include MD |
This is what happens when the original message doesn't have enough information. Posters ask for additional information, OP provides it (in this case "northern VA"), then advice drops on the thread about a club in Jessup, MD. The thread is dysfunctional because the OP didn't provide enough information and those who would like to help don't read the conversation. |
| Actually- I am the PP who provided both the link for the northern Va boys vball and then posted about MD juniors as I know families from VA who are willing to drive to Maryland- specific MD juniors for volleyball. I didn’t want to assume anything- just posting info that can be appreciated or ignored, just trying to be helpful. |
Got it. I do believe that some parents may drive pretty far to join a club if they see a benefit. High performers may benefit from driving to Metro, Paramount, or even MD JRs practices. However, I doubt this is the case for an 11 yo. I thought that Jessup was not quite close enough to northern VA because the OP mentioned "reasonable driving distance." |
| Anyone know of a place in DC for a boy, age 10, interested in playing volleyball? |

There is Maryland volleyball program

| Why are there so few options for boys and WAY TOO MANY for girls??!! |
Many girls (like my DD) don't like physical contact and they refuse to play basketball, soccer, football (even the flag versions). Volleyball is one of the sports where physical contact happens by chance: nobody comes to get the ball from you. I think this is the reason why volleyball is extremely popular with girls. Boys are more physical and have many other options. I am not sure about having WAY TOO MANY options - tell that to the girls who don't make a team after the tryouts. |
| Boys are allowed to play on girls regional teams up to the age of 13 - that could be an option, but they still have to find a boys club after they turn 14. |
|
So if I am looking at this correctly, there are no boys-only ES house/rec leagues at all in the spring, for boys totally new to the sport? https://www.novaboysvb.org/es-ms-boys
I've been through two years of house/rec and some travel with my DD and have seen zero boys on any team. I'm sure they exist, but...I think my boy would prefer a boys team. Oh well. |
You are a bit too late for this year tryouts: they already passed for the boy clubs. If your DS is 13 or younger, you can still try to make it on the roster of a girl club. The tryouts are at the end of this week. |
