nespresso / cortados

Anonymous
I want to start making cortados using my nespresso.

I read a cortado is a double shot of espresso (2 oz) and 2 oz steamed milk.

When using the nespresso machine, can I use 1 pod and the larger cup button (my machine has two brewing size options) to make a double shot of espresso, or is the espresso too diluted that way? Also does anyone know if that makes a 2 oz espresso?

Thanks.

Just make two and combine them.

This is much easier and better for the environment if you ditch the nespresso and buy a real espresso maker (could even be stove top). It will taste much better too.

OP here. I own a nespresso so plan to continue using it. My question is whether one pod plus hitting the larger cup button on the nespresso makes 2 oz of espresso for a cortado. Thanks.

Use a measuring cup or shot glass to measure? How would anyone know the answer to this?

Or try it both ways and see which you prefer?

OP, I also have a Nespresso and have wondered this too. You should try it both ways and then post here so I’ll know the answer! 😀

It would depend on your taste and desired caffeine level. I suggest you play with the ratio and do a taste test to see what you prefer.

Using the “lungo” button forces a higher volume of water through a single measure/pod of the coffee grounds.

I find the flavor of a lungo too watered down, but I like a really intense flavor of coffee.

Good luck!

OP here. I did some internet research. To make a cortado, I think I should do two pulls of espresso (not lungo) using a pod each time so 2 total - some machines can take the double espresso pods but I don’t think mine can, I have to investigate that. That should make about 2.5 oz espresso and then I can ad. 2.5 oz steamed milk which is slightly larger than the traditional 4 oz cortado but keeps to the 1:1 ratio. I will report back after I actually try it
