Bullying report involving racism

Anonymous
Has anyone here filled out a bullying report? If you did what happened after that? I posted in the teen forum about my kid being bullied along with racism - asked to go back to homeland and called "you freaking xxx(my nationality)" on separate occasions. It has escalated to the kid seeking out her locker and banging and kicking it after his was moved and after admin had a talk with him. School is asking me to fill out the bullying report since he is escalating. For context, the school is majority Hispanic and black, the bully is Hispanic. My kid and the bully are in 6th grade, so both are new to middle school and this kid is acting irrational even after the admin has spoken to him. My kid says he keeps staring at her when they are outside after lunch.

what race is the race of your child?

Not white or black. Another minority.

You need to get inside the school and sit opposite the counselor / AP / Principal and thrash it out. They will do nothing with an online report.

Principals have to address it when you fill out a Bullying and Harassment form. They can't ignore that form. I would fill it out now and each and every time he continues to bully. Those forms are reported and tallied. Principals don't want high numbers of those forms submitted so they will do something to address it. Just continue to fill out those forms each and every time something happens. Ask teachers to fill them out for the things they see. If your daughter feels comfortable have her go to counseling to fill it out every time it happens, or you do it when she gets home.

There is also a reporting form for hate-bias incidents, which it seems like this would fall under: https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/forms/pdf/226-5.pdf

You sound afraid of making the problem worse by filing the bullying report. Can you have a face to face with the AP, principal, or counselor to discuss the best approach?

How would filling out the form makes things worse?

The bully becoming angrier, retaliating, and continuing to stalk the victim.

This will probably be ignored for reasons that you are not allowed to say out loud, unfortunately.

You need to "talk with" the bully's parents.

It would have been a better solution to move both lockers. I would request to have your daughter's locker moved preferably to an area where there is a better view like across from a classroom or office door that is usually open.

Nothing much is going to happen to the other student for saying go back to your [homeland] or banging on a locker. In the realm of middle school bullying that is really, really minor.

Disagree, particularly because the bullying is racialized.

I had a similar situation in MCPS, in which my (biracial, white presenting) child was being bullied by a Black peer. The bullying was only partially racialized, but I reported the entire picture via the bullying form, using clear language. "On X occasion, [Bully] came to my child's locker and punched next to my child's head, calling her XXX, a racial slur for biracial individuals. On Y occasion, [Bully] repeated the slur, and stood in front of the door keeping my child from leaving lunch. This was witnessed by [Paraprofessional]."

I found the administration very responsive, actually. I know I was probably lucky, but the fact that the bully was absolutely from a harder situation than my own child in a lot of ways did not mean that my child's needs were ignored, contra DCUM received wisdom.

OP here. What did the administration do in your case after you filled out these forms?

As stated by the other poster, I am afraid that the situation will become worse with the kid retaliating more if I fill the form and they call the kids parents.
