I’m flying the red-eye to Paris out of IAD on United. Can anyone who has recently flown this itinerary tell me if they give out blankets? Trying to decide if I should purchase a travel blanket for the flight to take with me.
If anyone has any other useful tips to share, lmk. I’m going for a week-long trip! |

I just did this flight last week, and yes, they gave out blankets and small pillows.
No advice on the flight there, but if you're taking the non-stop United flight back to IAD from CDG, just a heads up that we made awesome time and actually landed an hour early, in case someone is picking you up at the airport. |
| I want nothing to do with a filthy airline blanket unless it’s maybe over my legs. I’m not gonna curl up in it. I wear a hoodie sweatshirt like top for my upper body. |
If you’re in economy, your drug cocktail is the most important part. |

I ordered the Trtl neck thingie based on recommendations here. But I don't have a flight scheduled for awhile so no feedback on that.
Bose headphones, eyemask, facemask and the TRTL. You can almost be in your own isolation tank. |
Same here. And the pillows too. It actually annoys me that they are already on my seat when I arrive because then I just have to find a place to put them and the space is already crowded enough. I end up putting them on the floor. |
| I found the blankets very thin and didn’t do much for making sleep comfortable. |
Why do you think they are wrapped in plastic? You think they are reusing blankets without washing? |
| I flew United IAD-BCN recently, and it was absolutely freezing the whole flight. I needed two blankets. |
All of the recent international flights I have been on did not have them wrapped in plastic. Maybe it varies by airline? My two most recent international flights were Icelandair and Aer Lingus, which I know are budget airlines. |
Just a heads up. Our non stop booked flight at the weekend was cancelled then our replacement flight via another city the next day was also cancelled. Our third booking was messed up. We made it home on our fourth attempt. |
. But did you have blankets? Your story has nothing to do with this thread and just was a string of either bad luck, lack of experience during irrops, or both. |
I once got one (in plastic) that had dried vomit within the folds. I will never touch one again. My guess is it got mushed in a very full washer and never got unfolded. |
| There are thin blankets, but they provide no warmth. You need to wear or take any layers you need to be comfortable. |
I had too many blankets because I was in business class. They give you a quilt, a blanket, a pillow and a memory foam pillow, and I usually stick half of that in the overhead bin. |
