Smelly hair - new, sickly sweet smell

Anonymous
A few weeks ago I was sick in bed with an ear infection, didn't wash my hair for a couple of days. It started stinking really bad, a completely new sickly sweet smell that I can't stand. I wash it like crazy, smell comes back after a day. I've changed all my hair products, smell still comes back after a day of not washing. I have no idea what it is. I remember my mom, in her 60s, used to hate the smell of her own hair and I didn't really understand what she was on about. Her hair was super short and she washed it regularly. I assume it's some kind of fungal infection, or a hormonal imbalance. Anyone have a clue what it might be?

Also wash all your bed linens in very hot water.

Make a head mask of plain yogurt. Apply it on scalp and hair and then wash it off with shampoo.

Similarly rub coconut oil with lemon juice added to it on your scalp. Leave it on overnight (cover bed and pillows with beach towel), Shampoo off in the morning.

Do it for a week. Your infection should be gone after that.

Persimmon soap is supposed to work for old person smell. Maybe try persimmon shampoo?

Yes I wash all my linens and towels and pillow cases 1x a week on hot, anyway none of those things smell, it's only my hair.

Then I would use like suave clarifying shampoo and let it sit for a minute. Sometimes when your sick your body makes odd smells my husband says he gets "Sick" breath when hes sick maybe its something like this that will pass after a week or two when your gut bio gets better I'd be eating yogurt everyday too.

Don't let anyone give you their health anxiety on here. It's mostly likely because you were sick.

But I was sick a long time ago, and it's only my hair that smells, not my whole body. I really don't think it's that. Could it be anything else?

Are you sure it’s your hair and maybe not your ears or something?

Or maybe you have a fungal infection on your scalp?

Thanks for that! I hadn't thought of it and just made an appointment.
