| Anyone have advice? Kid wants to apply to georgetown undergrad business. Math grades are strong, taking calculus this year, but not on honors math track (private school has honors but no AP). 3.85 uw gpa. 34 act. School does not rank. Hs counselor says not competitive for business because kid doesnt have highest level math (calc bc) and encouraging A&S or sfs because kid does have good language and IR type EC. Do we forget about business? Thoughts appreciated... |

Shoot your shot.
SFS is not easier than business. Plus so many other, great business programs. open and down the selectivity spectrum - ND, Villanova, Bucknell. |

SFS is harder than business. (I'm a grad of the business school and longtime alumni interviewer.)
If your child wants business, I would apply there. Just have some good backups. In addition to the ones the previous poster added, look into Wake Forest, Richmond, Lehigh, BC. |
| Unlikely admit because of grades not because of lack of rigor. |
It depends on the school. Georgetown really likes some of the local privates. They commonly admit down to 3.6 (unhooked) from ours. I checked the data on this earlier in the week. |
| OP- thanks everyone for the helpful feedback. Georgetown does take kids from our school with her stats- but usually to A&S or SFS. Her dad is a georgetown undergrad business alum but not very knowledgeable about this process. Her high school says apply where you have strongest fit. Georgetown admissions says apply to the school you prefer and see yourself graduating from. Feeling confused... |
| SFS is the number one program of its kind in the country. She should absolutely not apply there unless she is interested in international type studies. |
Your DD is legacy and Georgetown loves legacies. If she applies early, talks up the school and its traditions (her dad should be able to help with this) and makes it clear it's her top choice, I bet she has a very good chance of getting in. My niece got in off the waitlist. Good luck! |
| I think I would listen to your college counselor. |
| Grad of Wharton undergrad and Gtown business is always on my radar - I would NOT apply to SFS over Gtown business. The business school is easier to get into, as it isn't the only undergrad business school in the country. Plus she's legacy. And if business is what she wants to study, will she really be happy in SFS or A&S? Sure you can take classes at the business school but you aren't majoring in finance if you aren't in the school. |

SFS is a much harder admit, and wants to see math too. (Look at their curriculum, it's a lot of Econ).
Apply to the business school |
Here’s actual data, folks. Business school is a tougher admit… https://georgetown.app.box.com/s/z4tgwmps28jo4hd83i1migipgjw43uuo |
It maybe the case for other schools early application. But Georgetown said they won't consider legacy until regular round. And according to the cds - they don't track interests. |
the actual data youre showing (from class of 26) shows SFS had higher SATs in verbal and math and higher class rank. |
If you are only looking at acceptance rate, this is true. College is probably the hardest admit. But from the same document, SFS students seem to have higher quality of students. |
