Singles at the movies.

So when I am reserving seats for myself and a friend I noticed that there's a lot of single people reserving their seats. They always leave a gap between seats or sit away from others. It's more than a few years ago. Are there just more single people now?

It's too early to deal with stupid questions.

Seriously.

Think really hard, OP. Use those muscles.

Think hard, really hard but don’t hurt yourself.

I love going by myself to movies. don't need to explain anything to anyone

I'm 48 and have been going to the moves by myself for about 25 years. I rarely have anyone to go with.

Yes, not a big deal to go to the movies alone, no one to interrupt your viewing, no need to compromise or pretend to want to see the same movie... the movie is the entertainment... you don't need to bring entertainment to the entertainment.

I'm not single but my wife doesn't like movies, and I do. I go to a lot of movies by myself.

Same here. I see the movie I want, eat my own popcorn and don’t have to deal with people asking me stuff.

No, but there are more spouses, partners and friends willing to say “No” to spending time in an enclosed crowded space — without having an excellent reason for doing so.

OP, what do you mean by “single”? Since you reserved tickets for yourself and a friend, are you using your own example to indicate “not single” — because you’re attending with a friend? VS, say, a married person going to a movie alone?

If you were there alone would you want some stranger sitting right against you, pigging out on food, and bothering you?

I love going to the movies by myself. When the kids were younger they’d go with their dad to a kid movie and I’d go see a horror movie at the same time. Not everyone needs someone else around to do fun things.

going to a movie alone is a pleasure

It's not like the shows are all crowded these days either and the singleton seat choices and gaps are a problem.

Remember trying to get like 5 or 7 stupid seats together in the good old days before the internet? You'd have to keep going further and further to the front...
