Truesdell is my IB school and my kids will start there next year in PreK3. I'm not seriously considering anywhere else for the next couple of years but curious if anyone else here has kids there and what your thoughts are if you do. Feel free to spill "tea" (is this the right way to use this term ![]() |
The teacher is that DCPS preschool is fine almost everywhere so I wouldnt go anywhere you're not excited about or anywhere significantly less convenient. |
New building next year! I've been impressed with how their staff and parent leaders organize to advocate. It's been a while since I've been in a classroom there, though. |
We’re IB and I don’t know anyone who goes there. Many send kids to surrounding DCPS schools, so it’s not just the charter or bust crowd. That said, the renovation will be nice when it’s done! |
I think the new school building will attract more neighborhood families. Right now I’ve heard admin is a disaster and good teachers try to leave because of that. |
+1. We toured it for pre-K and there was duct tape holding the walls together. The school really had no chance of attracting more neighborhood families with the school in that condition. But PP is correct that pre-K is solid almost everywhere in DC, so when IB families see a shiny new building and hear a well pitched speech on the pre-K program, you may get more families willing to give it a chance (like Barnard or John Lewis). Doesn't mean they'll stay, but "neighborhood buy in," i.e., gentrification, starts with pre-K and moves up the grades. |
