| I recently had my nails done for a wedding (just gel, and short), and it was fun. I'd like to get them done more often, but I'm not very feminine or in tune to beauty standards, and I worry it's...trashy? Sorry to use an overused word on DCUM, but I don't know how else to put it. Could use advice. |
| Varies wildly. What did you have done? |
Gel, natural nails. Very short. Some glitter (I wouldn't do that for daily wear, obviously). |
| Short natural color gel manicure is not tacky. Quite the opposite |
| Im not girly but i have found that the dry style manicure with gel make my nails last forever, i dont bite them etc. i just get neutral pinks done every 3-4 weeks and it makes me look put together. |
| Why would getting your nails done be trashy? |
Like I said, I have zero concept of beauty standard, so I really don't know. |
| I find the ultra long, pointed style very trashy. But more "natural" looking styles are totally fine and even chic if you stick to neutrals/red. |
NP, but can you explain what “dry style manicure with gel” means? |
| Fake nails? No thanks. Just keep your real ones clean. |
| What is dry style? |
| There is a subset of wasp women for whom anything but buff is tacky. Then there are the natural types who (probably rightly) judge the chemicals. Outside of those two groups I would say most people in DC admire the look of short neutral or burgundy gel nails. |
why gel? why not just normal nail polish? |
It doesn't chip easily. Chipped looks so bad, you're better off going bare. That being said I hate how gels feel, it feels too heavy. |
| Gel lasts for 2+ weeks. When I get a regular manicure it isn't unusual for me to chip it on the way out of the salon. (only a slight exaggeration there) |
