| We're planning to move to East Silver Spring where our home will be zoned for Springbrook High School. My son will be a junior next year and I heard it's IB program is decent and many seniors took at least one IB or AP course last year. Any suggestions for the 2 other high schools in the NEC? (Blake & PB and tell me which one you would personally prefer) |
| Does your kid want to do IB next year? If so, you should stay in Springbrook, it's the only IB school out of the three in the Northeast Consortium. I wouldn't say Springbrook's the best IB school out of them all, but it's worth a shot depending what program your kid wants to do. |

I have a junior at Blake who has been having a great experience. If your kid is into music or arts, Blake has a very good program and community. We've been happy with teachers and staff, and the AP classes have allowed for a good level of challenge.
Friends at Springbrook in the IB program have also been happy (although I hear the junior year IB courseload has been a challenging adjustment!) Don't know as many kids at Paint Branch. You might look at the specific programs available at each school to see if there's an opportunity there that would appeal to your son. |
Paint Branch is a really good school too. My son enrolled in the NJROTC program at PB and earned some scholarships during his senior year. NJROTC can be challenging once in a while, but it made for the experience for my own kid. Worth it if your kid wants to do it! |
+1 We're very happy with our child at Blake. It's a very lively school and probably the best academically out of the three. He plans to do more athletics for the school this year and we're hoping the very best for him until he graduates! |
