A college aged woman watched our
Dog From Friday evening to Sunday evening. She didn’t spend the night but came over often to hang, feed and walk him. I think she has a hard time advocating for herself and saying how much she should get paid and is waiting for me to put forward an amount. But we’ve never had a dog sitter before so don’t know what a good rate is. She’s a complete sweetheart and we really like her so want to make sure we pay her appropriately. How much would you pay? TIA! |
How about $60 per day? |
| $200 |

Good lord. $15-20 s day is fine.
just make sure you pay! Last time my teen dog sat, the people never paid! Infuriating. I think people should pay up front. |
That's ridiculously low, poster. I occasionally dog and cat sit for friends. They usually pay me at least $35/day for a one visit day - I'm spending close to an hour getting there and back, never mind the time I spend washing/filling bowls and walking the dog if it's a dog walk visit. What is the daily boarding rate at a nice facility near you, OP? That's what you should pay your dog sitter at minimum, especially if she is hanging out with your dog, walking your dog, coming to your house multiple times per day to do this. You're paying to have your dog in the comfort of your home rather than stressed out at a boarding facility with exposure to other dogs and potential illness. |
| Boarding would cost about $80 per night so pay at least that. She protected your dog from potentially sick other dogs, from sleeping in a cage, and from an unfamiliar chaotic kennel. |
My 7th and 8th graders get paid $15 to do one 20 minute walk a day by several people. Op, agree with others. $65-$75 a day. Then round up. |
| Pet sitters usually charge $20-30/15-20 minute visit. Sounds like she did a lot more than let them in the yard and bail. I’d do at least $75/day. |
| If she had slept there you’d be paying $60-$80 per night. I’d pay this assuming you want her to help you again. |
Good lord, just chuck some $1s and change at her! Don't listen to this if you like this woman and want to treat her well. I agree with the PPs to pay about what you would for a boarding facility or a Rover sitter to provide the same service. 60 to 80 a day sounds about right. |
| I pay $20 per walk whether it’s the professional who does it for 20 minutes or the teenage neighbor who tends to stay longer. Our dog sitter stays overnight and we pay $100 a night which includes the walks/midday visits. I’d pay at least $60 per day in OPs situation. My teens get paid $20 a walk for neighbor dogs also. |
| I’d give her $200 cash |
You haven’t boarded recently have you? |
| Op. Thanks. I was thinking $175-200 so glad I’m on track. Yes, I’d love to use her again. She’s a sweetie and very responsible. |
| I would pay $175-200 if she came a few times a day for three days. At least 30 a visit. |
