To the Driver Who Honked at Me on Connecticut Ave

Anonymous
I get that it's frustrating to be caught behind a cyclist. But despite your yelling and waving, I couldn't go into the empty parking lane, because half a block down there was a car parked. I would've then been forced to make a dangerous merge into the travel lane while you and your fellow drivers are going twice my speed and have 12 times my mass (for those of you who remember your physics, that's 48 times my kinetic energy).

Ultimately, it's all Cowser's fault. You could've had your lane, and I had mine, but she decided that it was more important for a dozen people to be able to park there.

You really shouldn’t let honks bother you like this.

Small potatoes.

You are a traffic blocker. Choose a side road. There are many

I was going from Chesapeake and 36th to Adams Morgan. What other route was I supposed to take? Go down into pitch dark Rock Creek and then bike all the way back uphill? Please enlighten me. And to the other replier, I'm glad you're able to confirm how much bottled up rage you drivers have.

No need to go into physics. Honking happens all the time. The diver forgot about you already and is honking at other drivers.

I only honk at bikers who make me pass them twice by moving up front at a red light.

It's amazing how many cyclists would avoid these dangerous scenarios if they weren't forced at gunpoint to ride in the street with car traffic.

Take the bike lane on Reno to the bike lane on Calvert strait into Adams Morgan. Cmon lady.

Yet another entitled cyclist. As if traffic isn't painful enough.

You think this person reads DCUM? Otherwise, why burden the rest of us with your sad little drama?

To the three cyclists who almost ran me over this week in cycle tracks, if you have a red light and I’m in a crosswalk, you need to stop.

Written by someone who has never been on a bike and been targeted by a frustrated driver.

the cyclist pays the same taxes for public space you do. The cyclist is legally entitled to ride in a lane, the full lane. Maybe it is the driver who doesn't have the temperment to operate their vehicle in a rational manner who is at issue.

The thing that irks me about cyclists is they feel it's their absolute right to slow down car traffic so that they aren't inconvenienced but they always themselves seem to be cutting corners to make their trip faster either by advancing to the front of the traffic line on the side or not stopping at stop signs or whizzing past and terrifying pedestrians etc. Which is it? Everybody slows down and waits for one another or nobody cares about anyone else?
