Just got my weighted vest - how to start

Anonymous
I am not a workout person. I walk the dog and that's it. Trying to change this. I got a 12lb weighted vest. Any advice on how to start wearing it so I don't hurt myself?

Serious? Put it on. Go walk the dog. This isn't rocket science.

Exactly - start with a short dog walk and see how it feels, if anything needs to be adjusted etc. Then increase gradually.

Start out with less walking than you normally go just to get used to it for a few walks. Make sure you stretch your back afterward. You maybe have some sciatica afterward if you don’t.

Who told you to get a weighted vest for walks? If you do, you need to walk on an incllne.

Not op but plenty of workouts now include walking with weighted vests for a harder cardio/strength training walk and to increase bone density and strengthen core. Power walking on an incline with a vest is a tough work out and will strengthen calves, legs, and glutes. You have to have good form though or you will have back pain. Walking without incline is fine for strength too though.

My weight loss doc recommended one. Just wear it. Remember to use good posture as you walk.

I do walks with a weighted vest. Start small and shorter walks. You do not have to do incline.

Which one did you get? I’ve been using a backpack with some weights but it hurts my shoulders.

Yes which one? And 12 to start?

These are not good for your joints

Maybe I'm not understanding here. Do you think if you gained 12 lbs that your body will start breaking down? No right? Then how would wearing a 12 lb weighted vest do that? Isn't the whole point of the weighted vest is to mimic weight gain?
