| My junior wants to prep once a week for about 3 months leading up to the March SAT. He’s hoping to improve his score by 150 points. Is that doable or not likely? He’s got so much work for school and is an athlete so it’s tough to fit it all in. |
| Same situation here, hoping for a 1350-1550 increase but know that’s unlikely. |
| I’d say 125 is very doable |
| It depends. Did he have trouble finishing the test due to inexperience? Did he just forget a lot of his math? If either of these two were a factor, then working on these could help a lot, but otherwise the data says its unlikely prep will raise your score by that much. |
Well, it is both doable and not likely. Already sounds like it is not a priority. Try in March and if that doesn't go well dedicate more time over the summer and take it in August. |
| My daughter went up 210 points (1310-1520) prepping on her own for 2.5 months with Khan Academy but it was in the summer. I don’t know if once a week would have as much impact. |
| It really depends how motivated your kid is to put on the work. |
|
My kid went up 200 points but it wasn't until she was super motivated on her own. Prior to that she went through the motions--read the passages and answered the questions on Khan and with a tutor when I asked her to but she wasn't really (as my kids say) "locked in.".
There is a different between going through the motions of prep and really trying to learn the material because you desperately want to improve your score. I think kids have to reach that second state before they see improvement. |
Nephew went from 1440 to 1550 |
| Yes it’s do able, my kid did it for the August test. |
| It depends how smart and hard working he is. |
| On the ACT, with a lot of prep DD went up 4 points (equivalent to 120 points on SAT) from first test to last. Up 7 points (equivalent of 220 points on SAT) from diagnostic to final score. However more than 2-3 months of prep |
This! It’s totally possible but it requires daily/weekly work. My kid also wants to improve (1400 on Aug test), but they have a very busy schedule and it’s unrealistic they’ll be able to make significant gains. |
| Yes, my kid did. But it was over the summer so there was plenty of time for daily math practice. |
| It is possible. Princeton review has a prep that guarantees a 150 score increase, or that they don't charge you for the prep. Just follow the course, you never know. |
