I could really use some ideas!
For context, I love to bake and am fairly skilled. so I’m not looking to do this the simplest way. I’m also being funded, so I don’t need to do it the cheapest way either! I volunteer for my daughter’s city wide honor band. So the audience is high school kids. For the various dress rehearsals and extra events, the director puts out a wish list at the beginning of the year. I coordinate volunteers for things like “festival of fruit” or “valentines extravaganza”. Yes, the director goes a bit OTT, but he’s amazing and the band is amazing, and I love this volunteer gig! Normally I bake for about a third of the events, get parent donated snacks for the simple ones, and purchase stuff like Costco trays for the more substantial requested meals. Anyhow! The event in question is labeled “fun snacks… maybe a waffle party?” We are going to assume he doesn’t watch “Severed” and was literally thinking of waffles with toppings. Which is totally impractical to serve to 100 kids in a high school gym on Saturday. But I think the vibe he wants is fun, interactive, and slightly exciting. So I was thinking of shortbread or sugar cookie dough made into fingers with some Dixie cups of fun dips. But that seems like crazy sugar overload. If this question makes you roll your eyes, please skip, but if the possibilities excite, I’d love some ideas to either tweak or expand! |

OP again. Looks like I could actually make them into small bowl shapes and then bring chopped fruit, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. I think that fits the bill!
Have you ever made these? They would have to stand up to 3-4 hours wait time and they couldn’t get soggy… |

Sorry can’t figure out if this is supposed to be Halloween related?
For the finger’s you can easily make with a breadstick recipe and marinara sauce, or various other dips, even hummus. Apple slices with sun butter (or whatever your preferences are) and mini marshmallows to look like teeth Pretzel spider webs As far as fun snacks - miniature anything usually goes over well. Stuff on sticks you wouldn’t normally put on a stick. Things wrapped in other things. Funny shapes. Snack mixes with cereal and the like. Dips for the things on sticks. |

Waffles sit out in big chafing dishes at breakfast buffets, so I think they would work.
I really like PP’s idea of hot pretzels, especially because you could have cheese, mustard and glaze toppings so kids who want sweet get that and kids who want savory get that. I would do a cereal bar - lots of different classic to fun cereals and milks (for 100 kids, I’d be sure to include some GF cereals and dairy free milk options), you could even put sliced bananas and blueberries on the side. I am amazed at how much my teens and their friends love cereal and my older reports it is very popular all times of day in their college dining hall. |

OP again
Thanks for all the ideas! this isn’t Halloween themed. There is a Halloween snack event, but I usually do that with parent donations (half fruit, half candy). We lay it out on tables and the kids take a grab bag on the way home. I adore soft pretzels. But purchased ones are over our budget and they are actually kind of difficult to make. I’m going to go with waffle bowls, berries, and toppings. And I’m definitely saving the cereal bar idea for the spring. That would be pretty economical with Costco and fun as well! |
