| We are very interested in Flint Hill School because it seems like it would be a good fit for our kid for a variety of reasons. But we live in Montgomery County and it looks like bus transport is only from different parts of Virginia. Does anyone travel from Montgomery County or DC to Flint Hill? Are there carpools? |
| Why not Bullis or Saint Andrew’s if in Moco? Unless a special sports or extracurricular situation, that’s where I’d look. The commute is going to be a headache. |
This. We loved Flint Hill, but Bullis strikes me as very similar (although we don’t have personal experience because commute was a major factor for us) and much more conveniently located for you. |
| I would imagine even Flint Hill themselves would be confused on why you want to travel that far. |
OP here. Thanks for this. We have very specific reasons for preferring Flint Hill to Bullis that are related to our child’s needs and interests. |
| Even if there is a bus, the bus can't make traffic disappear. Dealing with the Am Legion bridge traffic in the afternoon every day could make life utterly miserable, and trying to cross closer in only makes it further to go to North Bethesda. |
| Ask the school about commute and MD families..definitely see a few MD plates at drop off and pick up |
| We live near you, and turned down Commonwealth Academy. There was no way, from a quality of life perspective, that we could make it work. |
|
Fair enough. I would ask the admissions office if there are any MoCo families they could put you in touch with to ask about the commute, bus situation, or any carpool options. |
| Oh, geez, do they really call it NoBe now?? |
Lol I’m one of the pp’s who suggested Bullis and I just ignored that. No idea what it means, but I know what MoCo is at least. 😂 |
I assume North Bethesda but never seen that abbreviation before. OP, if you really need that school..would you consider moving? |
| I wouldn't subject my family to this. Keep in mind, the overwhelming majority of students at Flint Hill live not just in the area around Vienna, but all throughout the greater NoVa area, so from a social standpoint, your kid will have a real hard time getting with other kids without a 45+ minute drive each way. |
| Yeah, it’s hard to imagine the specifics that would favor Flint Hill over Bullis or St. Andrews, which are both pretty similiar. If it’s a sports thing, you might want to look into Georgetown Prep or Gonzaga or SJC which are all a lot easier commute. Even Potomac would be a lot easier |
