Keep thinking WWIII will happen, I want the kids to go to local college.

Anyone else thinking along these lines? It’s not like I would have any control over the matter, where war would
start, etc. but I feel somewhat better if DCs are in our home state, not far.

I think you have misplaced anxiety, OP.

No, not that but after watching my siblings deal with things like Covid shut down with college kids and colleagues that had kids in college with 9-11, I definitely see the advantage of having a kid within driving distance.

I also have a slight preference for an east coast school because there is a tendency to settle close to your school. I came east for college and never went back west. And my niece went west for college and took a job in the city where she went to school. It’s not the most important factor for me in college selection but it is something I’m thinking about.

What? That’s a new one. Take it to the Politics forum.

If WWIII started, I'd be glad that my kids are away in places pretty far from DC!

Are you more worried about ww3 than about some domestic terrorist attacking telecommunications?

If that happens I'm way more worried about the draft.

Treat your anxiety - your role as a parent is to give your kids deep roots, so they can take their wings and fly. Get yourself treated, and let your kids go wherever works for them, not your anxiety

Agree. Redirect that anxiety to the prospect of civil war and send your kids abroad for uni.

If it does happen and you live in the DC area, you need to worry only if the attack is nuclear or a large scale internal terrorism. If you are in the path of either, you are not likely to survive. In both cases, you are better off with your kid living far away.

My DD is considering a 4-year program in Italy, and I admit it did cross my mind that she’d be a lot less likely to be caught up in a campus shooting. She’s more likely to get her wallet stolen

Although if she gets in, I’m definitely making her watch the Amanda Knox story.

Really? We are in the blast nuke zone. NoVA, MoCO or DC would be least safe.
