If legacy and great everything aside from low ACT (30) Would you bother applying or are chances zero?
Anonymous
Can still apply test optional. Do that.

I wouldn’t bother applying at all because I would not pay private tuition for a state flagship — any state flagship — but you do you. Would pay that amount for a private, though: you get what you pay for.

Legacy has no bearing at UVA any longer. At least- that’s what they say. If you have v deep pockets- as in big money donor deep- give it a shot test optional.

Only about 15 percent get in oos so chances aren’t great for anyone.

Legacy is no longer a thing at UVA as of 2025.

This applies to underrepresented minorities and ties back to the Grounds Tours that were all about slaves having built the campus per the recently put on hold student guides. This question came about after the Supreme Court case and is an opportunity to share personal / racial info. I know this all sounds like a stretch but I’ve done an enormous amount of research on this. Legacy is a no go at UVa. That is indisputable. You may dispute my rationale on the additional short essay question - although I’ve done my homework on this - but there is no disputing that UVA does not take legacy into account.

So there is a wrong and a right answer to the question? I can see your angle, but it seems odd to me they wouldn't think this will lead students to answer in their own personal way, and one of those ways might be legacy.

I see your point. I guess I’m just skeptical they care about legacy but I’d use it as an answer anyway. Can’t hurt

Legacy admissions are illegal at all of Virginia’s public universities. UVA is not considering legacy in admissions.

No more legacy as of this year.

Yep, sorry OP. Your kid is gonna have to get in on their own merit, which seems unlikely in your case. Best to stick with your own state school, which for sure is inferior.
