Not taking them there. Take them to the FL Ave grill, not in the best area but they will like it

OP here. I know Florida Avenue Grill for good Southern food but it's not a very fancy venue. I had envisioned dressing up a bit. Is fancy not compatible with good when it comes to Southern food in a restaurant?

I went to Georgia Brown's brunch admittedly 5 yrs ago, but it remains a very yummy indulgent brunch experience in my memory - esp the desserts You got so much food - if I am remembering this correctly, for one price you had the run of a huge breakfast and dessert buffet, PLUS you got to order off the menu, so most people have their entre from the menu automatically boxed to go so you get a delish meal the next day, too!

I wouldn't take real southerners to a southern brunch in DH, in my opinion.

If you're looking for a fancier brunch... hotels have the corner on that market. I love the brunch at the Willard. It's stuffy, but really really really good.

If you can venture into Bethesda, Black's has an excelent brunch. It's a nicer restaurant, but you can also show up in shorts. It's not huge, but it's a great buffet. They also have a good brunch a la carte menu. Best bloody marys in town!

Meant DC, not DH

I think Georgia Brown's would be a good choice. It's not perfect southern food but I have southern friends who love it and it's a fun brunch experience.

I haven't been to either, unfortunately. Another thought would be Vidalia -- which is high end southern fusion (or something like that) -- but I don't know if they have a brunch or if they're southern enough.

Please let us know how it went!

Southerner here: We went to B Smith's two years ago. I was very disappointed. I have been to Georgia Browns for dinner and brunch a few times. I love the atmosphere at GB's. The food works in a pinch when searching for a southern meal. I would go to Georgia Brown's.

Thank you, PP, for your advice. Your being a Southerner helps a lot! From you and a few other PPs, I see that between the two Georgia Brown's is the one to choose.
